In a world where dance has become synonymous with fun, TikTok trends and real art is being threatened by the expansion of AI, audience members came to LBCCâs spring dance concert to experience a real, close-knit performance.
Though the experience was a first for many and a recurring one for family members and alumni, everyone alike got just what is missing: a touch of the human life that turned the auditorium into a celebration of life.
The performance also offered a world full of artistry that nurtured the real life experiences of people and explored real feelings in imagery realms like feeling sensual as a banana slug, and being overworked in a creepy women filled world where everyone wears red wigs.

A fresh-to-LBCC student who will be performing the lead villain role of the Witch in the upcoming musical, âInto the Woods,â has at the same time been balancing being a full-time track athlete at LBCC over the last three months.
Romero attributes her success on stage and on track to a strong support system, alongside her strong discipline.
âIt requires a lot of discipline, something my mom instilled in me when I was younger. Having that sort of mindset, understanding the things I need and whatâs best for me,â Romero said.
Romeroâs interpretation of the Witch is quirky and funny, yet intense and mysterious as everyone is still afraid of her.
Romeroâs debut will be today during opening night at 7:30 p.m.

LBCCâs upcoming production of âInto the Woods,â which will debut Friday, will include a self-tipping cow, a Rapunzel tower emerging from above and a lot of wooden slats.
The trees of the woods, where the musical takes place, are represented by an abundance of dangling ropes, as well as with ensemble cast members, who are meant to embody the essence of the woods through dance.
âWe wanted to try something different. I would describe it as rustic and a bit minimalist,â said Andre Brown, the showâs director, about the aesthetic liberties taken.
The first show is Friday at 7:30 p.m in LACâs Bob and Barbara Ellis Auditorium, and the show will continue this weekend.
Students who bring their ASB sticker in person can get in for free to as many shows as they want.

INTO THE WOODS
Is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
LBCC actress Charlie Banister, will be making her debut to LBCCâs stage for a production of âInto the Woods,â redefining the role of Little Red Riding Hood to represent her wheelchair use. The musical has allowed her to rekindle her passion for acting, and she hopes to inspire other disabled performers in the process.
âI feel like (Little Red Riding Hood) works so well as someone disabled and using a mobility aid works well with her story as disabled people, especially women, always seem to be belittled. I think she and her sassy and outgoing attitude is something I want to especially highlight,â Banister said.
Banisterâs role is a main protagonist in the musicalâs story who goes on a quest to give bread to her ill grandma. Much like most other plots in âInto the Woods,â the story is written to immerse viewers into the world of the familiar fairy tale while also exploring the more sinister implications of it.

Last spring the debut of âIn the Heightsâ marked the first time in 18 years that LBCCâs performing arts department put on a musical. This spring they are taking what they learned and continuing the musical wave, having chosen the musical âInto the Woods.â With the debut being on March 13, the cast and directors started rehearsing in the beginning of January. They are wasting no time, as their four and half hour rehearsals, four times a week are full of back to back vocal training, choreography learning, blocking and run-throughs.
âItâs a story of life and going through life and facing challenges and overcoming setbacks, growing and learning. You look at each individual character and you can see the ones that grow and learn from going into the woods, going into life and having big life changes. Itâs a fabulous show,â said Skye Angulo, the vocal director of LBCCâs rendition of âInto the Woods.â
