Our first-ever Great Patio Pup Tour was SO FUN!!! We had at least 143 folks participate and 43 of those participants completed their Pawsports to enter into the raffle!

We also raised nearly $1,000 from a portion of proceeds from the drink sales across all eight venues - wowza! The vibes were super high all weekend long and we already can't wait to do this again next year!
In fact, The Great Patio Pup Tour was so much fun that EVERYONE wanted to join in...including this little duckling who thought Lawrence Beer Co.'s dog-friendly patio was also a duck-friendly patio!
This little quackster decided he wanted in on the fun and ran right under two mastiffs who were there with our Chief Development Officer, Elina. Luckily, the two large mama dogs had no desire to harm the little duckling and he was able to be scooped up safely by one of the patio's patrons. Since it was after-hours, he was taken to the home of one of Lawrence Humane's clinic staff, Shae, who has lots of fowl experience. The duckling was skillfully cared for overnight and then taken to our friends at Operation Wildlife the next morning. What a wild way to kick off the Great Patio Pup Tour!

We'll start our BKTAW recap series with our Kitten Shower Happy Hour that we hosted at the shelter last Wednesday! With your help, we were able to raise $1,200 for kitten care supplies and had a fantastic time playing with kittens, making cardboard yarn kitties, and enjoying snacks and drinks with other fans of felines! Help! We're all out of food in our pet pantry and need donations to restock! Lawrence Humane is the primary pet pantry for *all* of Douglas County. In 2025, we distributed over 106,000 lbs of pet food, and in doing so, helped responsible pet owners nourish their furry companions and avoid having to surrender pets who already have a loving home. At a time when our kennels are already bursting at the seams and every day we're being asked to take in more animals, the most responsible - not to mention kindest - thing we can do is help loving pet owners keep their pets. And that means helping them *feed* their pets.
We accept any brand and any size - even opened (and non-expired) bags that maybe your pet didn't like. You can drop off bags any day of the week in front of our Pet Resource Center -or- ship it directly to our door! /registries/gl/guest-view/6TFQMAITLFM7

It's goblin day! We'll have these 4 small-breed puppies (plus their mama!) at Petco on Iowa Street this evening from 4pm to 6pm! The mom's name is Truilga and the litter goes by the names of Eshnart, Blegvatinkle, Gobblesnot, and Blepqaz. We aren't entirely sure on their breed but what we do know is they are cute, small, and goblin-esque.
Oh, and did we mention their adoption fees are HALF OFF? Just $200 gets you a new pup who is already spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Basically, it’s destiny! Make sure to get there early - these sweet goblin pups won’t stick around for long!!

PS - We rarely know what specific breed an animal is. Best guess for these is Cute. Small. Goblin-esque. Mom is also small and available for adoption. That's what we've got for ya 🤪
It's been a slow start this year but Kitten Season is DEFINITELY HERE and we are receiving multiple litters a day. We are having great success finding foster placement for kittens eating on their own, but we are in desperate need of bottle baby fosters.
If you are interested in fostering bottle baby kittens, we would be more than happy to teach you the ropes! If you have done it before and are ready to help again, we are ready for you!!!
Here is a little more information on what their care routine looks like:
1. Gently stimulate to pee and poop before each feeding.
2. Bottle feed the kitten.
3. Wipe the kitten down to ensure that they are clean.
4. Write down the weight in grams and observational notes.
5. Place the kitten back in their warm and safe space.
**This routine happens every 2-6 hours depending on the kittens age. We will share more about the individual kittens needs with the foster caregiver.

Flycatcher was the perfect dog companion for a day out enjoying The Great Patio Pup Tour in downtown Lawrence. Polite and calm in all settings, he did great meeting a ton of people and dogs. Took a power nap in the shade and was recharged to meet new friends! 6 years old and been at the shelter for several months. Help Flycatcher catch a home today!!

Today is the last day of our Be Kind to Animals Week adoption special where all adult dogs' adoption fees are only $51! And we'd love to feature three former mama dogs that are available for adoption - Queen B, Moilie, and Broadway.
All three of these sweet mamas survived challenging circumstances before arriving at Lawrence Humane with their teeny tiny puppies. Luckily, they were all able to raise their families in the safety and comfort of a foster home! Now all of their puppies have been adopted, but all three mamas are still looking for families to adopt them and give them loving forever homes! Wouldn't it be incredible if they could get adopted on Mother's Day? 💖
