👋 lots of new faces joining the adventure so here is a re-introduction.
I believe that learning to explore (especially alone) + how to survive, overcome mild peril and discomfort is one if the best ways to tackle modern work/life stresses and reduce burnout risk.
🥾 I'm out here exploring to do just that & picking up new skills along the way.
Any questions please let me know - the next big adventure is not yet decided....
⭐Favourite adventure so far BY FAR was the race in Mongolia.
🏔️Second favourite has been learning to climb mountains in winter with axe and crampons.

👇 Maybe a little unfair on the second half . I think in spring or summer (or even autumn) it may be nicer when the trees have leaves on them and there is some colour to the heather etc.. but bleak in winter
👋 Hi - I'm hiking the west highland way in Scotland. I'm doing it alone.
🥾 I've not been hiking long (about 2 years) and this is an easy one to do as a beginner.
📍I'm doing it in sections + creating little vlogs for people to see what it's like. This is part 3. Other reels linked below.
The paths are easy to follow, loads of places to stop for the night or to get a coffee (or a beer)

The Ring of Steall - 1 day, 4 Munros, a short scramble & a wet bottom. Fog at every summit.
👇 Detailed version
At this time of year there is less than 8hrs of daylight. (7hr 40 on the day we did it). Walk Highlands says it's 9-12hrs. We set off later than planned. We were worried about descent in the dark and didn't want any unnecessary delays.
Less than an hour into this 9+ hr hike, before even the first of the four Munros, we had to ford the river at Seall Falls. I was enthusiastic, slipped on a stone and got washed headfirst downstream on my back. Soaking wet, unusable winter trousers, soggy boots, wet socks and many hours to go.. I couldn't believe it had happened.
Instead of quitting, I changed into whatever dry layers I had (with a pitiful single skin water proof trouser being the only bottoms left) and decided to carry on. Each time we stopped I rang out my socks. I had a dry pair but wanted to save them in case things got worse. Keeping moving was the only way to keep warm!
Took us 8hr30 in the end (we did have 2 cars so cut off the final stretch of the walk Highlands route along the road). Going to try to make my first video walk report of this.. it was an excellent day despite the setback!

Ever wanted to see a full home renovation - old building, full of small surprises?
It's been a journey but 💯 worth it.
Credit to @mlbproperties for their attention to detail and being a great team to work with.
🥳 I finally have a base to plan the next adventure 🥾⛰️

3 months ago I promised myself I would do an ultra marathon.
More accurately - I signed up for one and promised that I would have a go and see what happened.
🤷♂️I've never done a marathon (until yesterday). I went out to the hills once max 2 times per week and didn't go to the gym.
🤦♂️I haven't followed a plan, I've been disappointed with how many "bad habits" I still have and didn't know if I could make it.
😅 I'm not recommending this as a strategy to anyone - but just in case you are sitting there like "I wish I could but I'm not good enough" - I reckon you could.
❌ It is really uncomfortable - especially if you aren't that fit 😂 but I don't mind that.
🥵 The last few km were certainly harder! Will get those shared soon

🥹 Nature : This is just what happens every day.
📍Shropshire Hills
I've been exploring the Shropshire way 🌄
Back to Scotland soon though.. final chance to get familiar with the West Highland Way before the race at the end of the month!

✨ Sunrise to sunset on the Shropshire Way
Looking for a long (123 miles) hike to do over beautiful countryside?
This can be broken down into stages, helpfully most of them going pub to pub.
This section is:
📍The Bridges to Bishops Castle
Sadly I did it on Easter Monday and the pub in BC was not serving food!
⭐ More sections to come

Next time I will do it differently.
1. Actually have a training plan
2. Don't take weeks off in the middle
3. Give myself more time (12 weeks was punchy)
But I will keep the same "what's the worst that can happen" attitude and the smile 😊
I signed up for it just to give myself something to aim for. I didn't pick something that was easy or realistic, I did the thing where you aim way higher and it has pulled me along a fun journey so far!
Now just to not over do it... 🤞
😈 Devil o' the Highlands footrace - 69km

✨ Hiking up here for sunrise is something to save for your Scottish adventure
📍 Beinn a'Chrùlaiste : short detour off the West Highland Way.
🧭 The ascent route branches off the west highland way on your right, just before the Devil's staircase as you head through glen Coe towards kinlochleven.
🥾 The hike to this exact point is only about 30mins. The ground is boggy, featureless and not very fun to climb.
HOWEVER
The view is 💯 worth it.
Any questions let me know 👇 - Side note on photography:
📸 Playing with photography before the sun rose made me even more keen to get an actual camera. Very keen to return and get this bridge with headlights properly one day 🤞any beginner camera recomendations? I had one once but it was stolen (Canon 40D)

✨ Every time you visit this area it feels different
📍Glen Coe following the West Highland Way
🌦️ Yesterday there had been fresh snowfall and the mountains looked wonderful.
🥾 It was wet and slushy on the paths, changing to snow and ice higher up on the Devil's staircase and across to the descent to Kinlochleven.
⭐ I have been here a lot in the last few weeks!
👀 Hopefully some more Wales and England coming soon.

🤦♀️ Impossible? : couch to 69k in 13 weeks.
At the beginning - I didn't think so. NOW however, it's not the distance it's the speed that I don't have. I can't even make it 30km at "race pace" .. so how can I make that up in less than 5 weeks?!
... I have 5 (more like 4 weeks) left to go now and I may have to start doing a little bit more.
😬 I've NO IDEA if I can go a full 69km. The furthest I've done was 32, and that was at a walk.
🤷♀️ If I fail - I will know where I'm starting from.
⭐ So that's the story to date. If you are still here, or curious - come along for the journey!
Race is end of March, Devil O' the Highlands in Scotland💪

👀 2 years ago I had no mountain skills, and would not have gone solo hiking.
🥾 I Started off with lots of small, often disastrous, hikes with friends, inappropriate kit, having to turn back and sometimes getting far too cold, hungry and tired.
✨ Now I've learned many lessons, and am happy for days on my own.
📍 I'm sharing this journey and places I find, hoping to encourage others to get out and fall in love with exploring too 🏔️
🤔 Although the weather is not as perfect as it was over the last few days .. I feel the mountains are calling once again.
🚙 Need to get back to Scotland! Roadtrip coming soon
What's your favourite mountain area to explore? 👇
