✨ Talking with Tanya! Today we’re talking Black History Month in BD7. 🎙️
Black History Month at King Drew High School isn’t just a moment; it’s lived, honored, and uplifted every single day.
It was powerful to hear from our staff and scholars what this month truly means to them — pride, resilience, excellence, and legacy in action.
These conversations remind us why representation, truth, and opportunity matter. BD7 continues to lead with purpose, centering our students and celebrating the brilliance within our school communities. ✨
We closed out our final School & Climate Committee meeting of the 2025–2026 school year last month with meaningful conversation and shared learning.
Thank you to our district team and to Dr. Debra Bryant, Acting Chief of School Operations - for presenting the District’s approach to addressing conflict and harm. We’re also grateful to South East High School for sharing how these practices come to life on their campus. @southeasthsjaguars We ended the meeting grounded in a clear reminder: when we lead with accountability, restoration, and care, we build stronger relationships across our school communities.
Appreciation to all of our committee members for your continued engagement and commitment to creating safe, supportive school environments!
At today’s board meeting, Board Member Ortiz Franklin uplifted this letter written by our BD7 Student Advisory Council (SAC), emphasizing the role of student voice in decision-making, including prioritizing mental health supports.
Stay tuned to see the full resolution discussed today 👏🏽✨

I’m deeply grateful to our educators, teaching artists, and families who nurture and uplift our students’ creativity every single day. Your support makes moments like this possible.
And to our students, thank you for your courage to create, to share your voice, and to inspire us all. Keep creating. Keep dreaming. Keep telling your story. 🎨
