My solo exhibition at Yorkshire Sculpture Park can be seen until 7th September 2025.
‘Into Being’ is in The Chapel at YSP and contains a large installation (pictured), smaller woven forms, a collection of original drawings and my first limited edition print.
It also has an accompanying catalogue beautifully created at YSP by Louise Lohr, Deputy Curator with support from Hignell Gallery, which includes essays by Glenn Adamson and Catherine Milner and a conversation between Louise Lohr and I, discussing drawing and other aspects of my work. You can find the catalogue in The Chapel, the YSP shops and the YSP online shop.

An alternative view of the interior of my work, Natural Course at Chatsworth.
Natural Course stands in part of the Garden called Arcadia, which has recently been redesigned by Tom Stuart-Smith. Four wonderful dry stone wallers assisted me in making the work in the early months of 2020.
The stones are gently covering with moss and lichen now which is lovely to see and hopefully providing habitats for small creatures.
Natural Course is detailed in the current issue of House and Garden (November issue), my thanks to House and Garden.

Exhibition talk:
Drawing with Willow - The Work of Laura Ellen Bacon
I’m honoured that on Friday 10th April at Beningbrough Hall near York. you can hear Louise Lohr, Deputy Curator at YSP speak about my work.
In early 2025, I installed an installation and solo show in the Chapel at YSP, supported by Hignell Gallery which ran from 5th April to 7th September 2025 entitled, ‘Into Being’ (shown in first photo). The installation was created entirely in the chapel at Yorkshire Sculpture Park over a three month period from my fragile first willow outlines to my densely woven, large completed work.
Later in 2025 during the autumn I went on to create new works at Beningbrough Hall, including a very large installation in the Saloon called Thicket (shown in second photo), which can still be seen until 12th April ‘26. I am thrilled that Louise Lohr is able to speak about my work in this setting.

LAURA BACON’s @lauraellenbacon latest creation, entitled ‘Gathering My Thoughts,’ featured in issue 21, is part of ‘Ground/Work 2025,’ an exhibition of six commissioned outdoor sculptures at @clarkart in Williamstown, MA. It is the successor to a similar project hosted by the museum in 2020–21, this time with a focus on craft. For this edition, @glenn_adamson selected artists from Britain, Japan, Mali, Mexico, Switzerland, and the USA. Collectively, they demonstrate that the most sturdily traditional of artistic premises can be reimagined in new and surprising ways. On view through October, 12th, ’26. Issue 21, features a diary kept by BACON during the creation of this sculpture. Link in bio. 📷 @carltond

Shown here is a wall mounted work called, ‘Attached’ made in 2012. There is also a work of a similar scale called Cradle which is mounted beautifully over a mantelpiece. I made Cradle when my daughter was only 4 months old in those calm moments of time when she was asleep in the daytime.

‘Gathering My Thoughts’ sitting quietly under snowfall.
I love the dark blue of the sky in this image, I can feel the stillness under that winter sky.
Created in May 2025 at The Clark, Massachusetts, USA as part of Ground/work 2025, curated by Glenn Adamson.
I came to know this part of the woodland at The Clark quite well whilst making the work on site in Massachusetts and I still recall the birdsong, the light levels between the trees and the sways and creaks of the trees. I received this photo just before I went to bed and fell asleep imagining the insects and small animals that might be nestling down inside the work for winter.
(This piece of music I’ve used with the image by the way: Boy 1904 by Jónsi and Alex - it’s one of my favourite pieces of music that I listen to in December - seems imbued with the magic of winter light somehow)
