This morning Laundry Workers Center with the support of many other community organizations launched a campaign for Salvador Pardo against Dollar Depot in East Orange, NJ. Salvador is from Mexico working two jobs over 64 hours a week to support his family, suffering exploitation and wage theft over the course of many years totaling over $100,000. Inspired by the campaign of Mayra Flores at Corner Coin-Op in East Orange Salvador attended training for 8 months learning how to break the chains of exploitation. Today we delivered our letter to the employer demanding they obey the law and pay a minimum wage! They have two weeks to respond otherwise we will return! Sí, se puede!
Our outreach team was out on the streets, rain or shine, sharing with workers about their workers' rights, immigration rights, and mental health. Help us keep the momentum going, give a gift of knowledge, donate at LWCU.org/support

Child Care For All NJ made our presence known today. Parents and providers — mostly women of color — shared their stories directly with elected officials. The demand is clear: build a care system rooted in racial and gender justice.
This is just day one.

Child care in New Jersey is broken — and working families, especially Black and brown mothers, are paying the price.
The people who do this work are overwhelmingly women of color earning poverty wages. Parents spend up to 30% of their income on care. Too many families are told they don’t qualify for assistance. And federal cuts justified with racist lies are only making it worse.
Local resolutions across NJ have demanded a system rooted in racial and gender justice — and now we’re bringing that fight to the Statehouse.
On May 11, Child Care For All NJ launches. Parents, providers, and community members are joining the national Day Without Child Care to demand:
✓ Fully funded child care subsidies
✓ Expanded eligibility so Black and brown families aren’t excluded
✓ Living wages and real benefits for early educators
✓ Paid for by taxing the rich

Today at the Coalición Mexicana in the Bronx!
We had an incredible day providing educational training focused on labor and immigrant rights. ✊🏾It’s essential to empower our community with knowledge and resources to advocate for their rights.
Ahead of our Consumer and Worker Protection hearing, I rallied with @streetvendorproject@workersjusticeproject@drumnyc and @laundryworkerscenter to urge the City Council to invest $5M in worker organizing in the FY27 budget. By investing in grassroots organizations with deep ties to these communities, we can ensure workers know their rights, can defend them, and can access real economic stability.
