🐑 QURBANI: 5 THINGS EVERY MUSLIM SHOULD KNOW
1️⃣ Who should give Qurbani?
There are 2 major scholarly opinions:
• Hanafi:
Qurbani is obligatory for every adult Muslim whose wealth is above the nisab.
• Shafi’i, Maliki & Hanbali:
Qurbani is highly recommended for every adult Muslim who can afford it.
Either way, if Allah has given you the means, this is an act of worship you don’t want to miss. 🤍
2️⃣ When does Qurbani take place?
⏰ From after the Eid prayer on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah until sunset on the 12th Dhul Hijjah (majority opinion).
⚠️ A sacrifice made before the Eid prayer does NOT count as Qurbani according to the majority of scholars.
3️⃣ Which animals are acceptable?
✅ Sheep
✅ Goats
✅ Cows
✅ Camels
Each animal must meet the required age and health conditions.
• 1 sheep/goat = 1 share
• 1 cow/camel = 7 shares
4️⃣ How many Qurbani does a family need?
According to the majority:
🐏 One sheep or goat can cover an entire household.
However, in the Hanafi school:
Each eligible individual should give their own Qurbani.
The Prophet ﷺ sacrificed:
• One ram for himself and his family
• One on behalf of his Ummah
(Sahih Muslim)
5️⃣ What happens to the meat?
Traditionally, the meat is divided into 3 parts:
🥩 One-third for your family
🤝 One-third for friends & neighbours
❤️ One-third for those in need
Note:
It is also permissible to give all of it away.
