Happy 303 Day! To celebrate, I’m sharing my set for Flip 9 at @_parquette , with crowd noise integrated. I was given the massive honour and responsibility to follow the talented @photay and @sepehr.inc and close out the night. I knew I had to show up and show out! I wanted to share the crème de la crème of what I’ve collected in my 5 years of dj’ing and showcase some of my formative tracks. I’ve been jokingly calling it my 3-hour thesis (or manifesto), but I really mean it. I designed this set to collectively open ears, minds, and bodies, staging dialogues across emotion, geography, and culture. I move between hard and soft, beautiful and abrasive, playful and serious, reflecting the full spectrum of the human experience. At the same time, I pay homage to the feedback loop of Black America (the blueprint), Asia and its diaspora, the UK/EU, and Latin America, tracing connections while honouring the uncompromising, complex nature of the artists themselves. Through contrast, breaks, and unexpected pairings, tension and release emerge - producing catharsis and a shared emotional memory on the dancefloor. What you hear is a refusal to be reduced or simplified - and an invitation to expand perception along with me. Apparently, Parquette stayed full until the very end, and some danced the whole 3 hours! To those who supported me from near and afar, for short and long, to the dancers who explored their bodies, to the staff who took care of me and encouraged me, to the bookers who really saw me, and to the incredible artists and producers who spoke to me - from the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything 💗 Back to the 303, this synth is the origin of acid. It is raw, human, and physical; and so is this mix. It’s imperfect, mutates, and there’s a whole lot of intrigue. Side note: it was a complete coincidence that its duration is 3:03:39 🤪.This is my ode to nuance, perspective, lineage, club music, call and response, dancing, curatorship, jazz, improvisation, love, passion, and joy. Hope you have as much fun listening as I did playing! Link in bio ✨ PS Coincidentally @irlhuman ’s flip mix also came out today! Go check that out too 🎧

It’s Sunday morning, and we’ve all been up since night dancing and celebrating the last Layer05 of the season. There were twists, turns, indescribable sounds, and the dancefloor was teeming with energy. Now, it’s progressively getting brighter. Some have spent hours dancing, and exhaustion is creeping up. Suddenly things feel a bit stiller and silent. You start to see the nuances of the trees, the clouds in the sky, and the river flowing. Though surrounded by water, the land itself was parched, and you could hear the dry leaves rustling through the wind like percussion. If you spoke to me at all that night, you would know just how nervous I was. It had been a while since I spun at an event where I could fully express myself. Playing for an audience of discerning ears is both an honour and a large undertaking and I wanted to do it and everyone justice. Not to mention, it was just 30 minutes before my set that I realized I was closing the entire season! I was a bundle of nerves and tensed up when I started my set but as I continued to play, I remembered that these discerning ears also happened to be my friends and community 💕 I debated editing this recording but decided to leave it mainly intact with some EQ boosting (one portion was cleaned up, you can guess where 🤪). The river, the weather, and being immersed in nature all had a strong influence on my setlist as I was prepping, but it was the vibes from the organizers, attendees, and other artists that created the magic I felt during my set. A massive THANK YOU to everyone who stayed and gave me a chance, @layer05_ team for trusting me, and all the kind words I heard afterwards. I’m truly honoured to have played and elated that you enjoyed it, so I’m giving y’all the option to hear it again! For those of you listening for the first time, expect an exploration of genres and bpms in true LRR style. Starting from 160 with some halftime play I make my way up (or you could argue down) to 90 for some downtempo and bass where I end up in the high 110s. I did some research about my closing song at Flip @_parquette and I uncovered A LOT. The version I have always known growing up, blasting in my home as a child, was called “Time to Say Goodbye” - the English duet version done by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli, which I thought was Sarah Brightman’s song. I had no idea it was originally Bocelli’s and called Con ti partiro in Italian. I also had no idea it was a chart topper in 1996. I just happened to look through my childhood playlist and thought the track would be amazing as a closer. I then come and find out that the duet version with Brightman only happened because a German boxer wanted it to be his theme song for his final match. The boxer previously worked with her for another song and that’s why they chose her! This is one of the wildest connections, because for my set I wore a t-shirt with John Cena, a fighter who’s equally if not even more known for his outrageous theme song 🎉 Right after playing, Oli @irregulardiscourse came up to me and said nothing else but “the Catalina wine mixer” and a RUSH of memories came back to me 😭😹. It was featured in 2008’s Step Brothers (I was obsessed with this movie, as were my family friends shoutout Jeff @duckduckgu and Jerry @jrygu ) and Will Ferrell sang the Spanish version of this song. Him and his step brother stepped in as Prestige Worldwide to replace a no-show band to perform at the Catalina Wine Mixer. Funnily enough there’s an event this Friday at Tangent gallery in Detroit with a spinoff name! Check it out if you’re around… Lastly, it needs to be known that Sarah Brightman is our Chinese singing diva, and actually closed out the Beijing 2008 Olympics opening ceremony with legend Liu Huan. You can read the backstory in my post, but this ceremony was a huge turning point for China in its development and for Brightman to have closed it out was a big deal. Furthermore she was a big deal for Chinese people, like this was China attempting to flex. All in all, I sense many loops have closed with this song. Thanks for staying to witness this track and reading through all these coincidences! To more of this in 2026 💫🌟

A little over a year ago, I had taken on one of the biggest challenges and most rewarding achievements of my DJ career: a DJ workshop for elders (and primarily in French) at the Quai 5160 in Verdun. What you see in this post are some clips of the workshop presentation, where to find these mixes, and other memories. The workshop was a month long, and starting out my pupils knew nothing about the mechanics of DJing but came with a passion for electronic music (and other genres) and curiosity. I showed them the basics, a demonstration, and what is needed to get started. Over the course of the workshop, my pupils would do their homework and I’d help them out with achieving their desired outcome. At the end of the month we had a celebration and dance party where each participant performed their 15-20 minute long mix. You can find all 4 of them on my Mixcloud (link in bio)! When An had originally proposed this to me, I was terrified. I (as usual) was having massive imposter syndrome and I spent weeks deliberating the opportunity. Ultimately I dealt with my demons and said yes. We planned it out over several months and we came out of it with 4 new DJs! The whole experience was incredibly enriching and I’m so appreciative to have met and taught Colin, So, Jo, and Marie-Claude through An’s thoughtful curation and trust. An enormous thank you to @an_laurence_ and @quai5160_mdc_verdun for making this happen!! 💖 If there was one thing I’d like y’all to know about me as a person and DJ, is that I love intergenerational communities. I feel this workshop really exemplified that love I have 💕. You may have seen this reflected in other events I’ve been a part of, like Paifang in Chinatown, or at food markets. I’m really proud to be a champion of stringing old and new music together for diverse audiences to hear with open minds, hearts, and ears. So now I’ve not only shared my music philosophy, but have had the chance to pass down this mindset/technique to others who can do the same, and I couldn’t be more grateful! Here’s to curiosity, patience, understanding, and exploration! 💫 PS I may be running more workshops in the future so stay tuned 👀
