How long have you been a drummer with LRSD? 2017 What instrument do you play? Bass, Cymbals Favorite cadence: I love Poopie. It brings such energy, and it’s got so much going on with the syncopation Favorite gig, and why? I like the Three Course Challenge gig, because it’s great to play for kids, who might be looking for that extra oomph as they compete. Name: Lyle Band nickname: “Demon” is the name embroidered on my jacket, which comes from my roller derby name “Carpe Demon”. Roller derby is what introduced me to LRSD, and my history with both communities is closely connected, so I chose to use that name on my jacket. I played and coached roller derby for over seven years, and ran Portland’s men’s derby league for four years. Why did you become a drummer with LRSD? I fell in love with LRSD the first time I saw them perform at a Rose City Rollers bout, not long after I moved to Portland. Their catchy beats, powerful rhythms, ultra-cool look, and showmanship hooked me instantly, and I knew I wanted to be a part of it! Sixteen years later, and I have zero regrets. I love everything about playing drums with the Last Regiment! How long have you been a drummer with LRSD? I officially joined the band in January of 2010. What instrument(s) do you play? Bass, Cymbals, Tenor Favorite Cadence: Tsunami! It was the first brand-new performance piece we learned after I joined the band, and the elaborate field show that goes with it is still my favorite that we have ever performed. Favorite gig AND why? Roller derby performances always feel special, because that community was my home for many years. I also love playing in the Starlight Parade! The energy of large crowds is incredible, and hearing people cheer for us never gets old. Other honorable mentions include playing San Francisco Pride 2011 (main stage), the 2012 LBJCB drummer reunion in Long Beach, and our epic drum battle vs. LBRSR at the 2024 Belmont Shore Christmas Parade.
