Let's celebrate! Several amazing LAS undergraduate students have been awarded prominent scholarships this spring: 🏆 Sameer Abbasi and Lyndon Shi have received Boren Awards. This is the 11th consecutive year that at least one Illinois student has earned this scholarship! 🏆 Di Lan Johnson, Christine Nguyen, and Karel Pene (now a two-time CLS recipient!) were awarded U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarships. 🏆 George Bayliss was awarded a Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. Fun fact: no university has had more Goldwater Scholarship recipients —13 — over the past three years than Illinois! 🏆 R. Fisher Houston was awarded the Udall Undergraduate Scholarship, one of only 65 recipients nationwide. We congratulate these students on their achievements and can't wait to see what they do next!

How was everyone's Moms Weekend?? To celebrate the occasion, some of our LAS students shared what they appreciate most about their moms: Bela says, "I appreciate my moms constant support and time spent on things like making birthday cakes ever year and creating fun trips for us to take." From Melissa: "I appreciate my mom because she brightens my mood every day and is always just one phone call away—day or night—for advice, help, or anything at all." Bethany writes, "I love how my mom admits that, like everyone else, she is not perfect. However, she always apologizes for her so-called "mistakes" and rights any wrongs." Macy reports: "What I appreciate most about my mom is her kindness. She is incredibly genuine and supportive of friends and strangers alike; her empathy and generosity inspire me to be a better person." Cheers to all the wonderful moms out there. 🫶
