On May 30th, The Basement opens its doors to a selector shaped by static, signal, and the long arc of dance music history. From the underground clubs of Hamburg to airwaves that never sleep, LARS BEHRENROTH arrives carrying decades of intuition, taste, and quiet authority. Three decades deep, six continents wide, his path has threaded through rooms like Djoon, Stereo, and Distillery, leaving behind floors that remember.
But it’s not just where he’s been… it’s how he moves a room. Always listening. Always adjusting. Taking the night exactly where it needs to go.
His Deeper Shades of House radio show, now over 24 years strong, hums like a constant transmission… nearly a quarter million listeners tuning in each month. As a producer and remixer, his touch has found its way onto Freerange, Compost, Sonar Kollektiv… even brushing shoulders with names like Beyoncé, Robert Owens, and Black Coffee.
@larslb is not merely a participant in the story of dance music. He is one of its quiet architects.
His path brings him to the Basement for his debut, and we’re looking forward to what unfolds.
Before we get there, the floor must be prepared. For that, we turn to someone we’ve had our eye on for a while.
Enter THINGS YOU SAY… no blueprint, no noise, just instinct. First ripples came through a 4AD remix for Grimes, and from there, the signal spread. Club der Visionaere, A Club Called Rhonda, Skyline Festival, Secret Project and just recently Core Festival… each appearance leaving a different kind of imprint. His sound doesn’t sit still. It bends, stretches, slips between genres without asking permission.
Releases on Palm Recs and SG Lewis’ Forever Days, remixes touching Motown and Unidisc, has drawn praise from Harvey, Jamie Jones, Peggy Gou, Patrick Topping, and BBC Radio 1.. But beyond the decks, he builds worlds. Expression. Visual collaborations. Something deeper than just music.
@thingsyousay won’t just open the night… he sets the frequency. We could not imagine a better way to begin.
Come early. đź–¤
