Coming out of the pandemic opened up many of the pathways that led to the creation of Yellow Couch Music including my introduction to Lars Haake (@larshaake .)
We met through our mutual friend Jonathan Glass (@jonathanglassart ), who invited us to see Robert Glasper at the Blue Note’s reopening in the summer of 2021. Lars and I hit it off immediately. We're both Berklee grads and share a deep appreciation for the same kinds of music.
Not long after that night, we started collaborating. So many of the melodies and horn lines I was hearing in my head while writing Tidings In The Rough came to life through Lars’s playing. He helped shape the sonic identity of the album in a big way. Our first time performing those songs together on stage was at the Nublu release, a milestone moment for Yellow Couch Music.
Lars has an incredible ear and is one of the top players in NYC. Beyond music, he’s like an older brother to me. I’m deeply grateful to know him and to work so closely together.
Here he is performing ‘Somewhere Along the Lines’🎷✨🎶
