Thanks @sidewalksofdallas for featuring this historic remodel. It was a joy to work with Hp townhall and revitalize this lovely municipal building!
@sidewalksofdallas Architecture firm Lang & Witchell designed the Highland Park Town Hall located at 4700 Drexel Drive. Completed in 1924, the building was originally known as the Highland Park Municipal Building. The Spanish revival structure with churriguresque influences was officially dedicated as the townâs community center on October 30, 1924. The total cost was approximately $65,000. It was built by the firm Thomas & Scarborough. The cornerstone included a time capsule with copies of the Dallas Morning News and a summary of Highland Park history by Hugh E. Prather.
The original floor plans were featured in the December 1925 issue of Architecture Magazine. The first floor included a lobby, cashierâs office, water department, mayorâs office, and a large auditorium with a stage. The second floor consisted of council chamber (also used as a public art gallery), corridor, and balcony seating for the auditorium.
The Dallas Morning News news described the newly constructed building as âone of the prettiest of the smaller city buildings of the South.â
The historic building has been renovated and meticulously expanded over its long life, most recently by architecture firm Larry E. Boerder Architects in 2014 (@larryboerder_architects ).

We love trees! A good tree can acts as a lovely patina to any home- making it seem as if the residence has always belonged in the neighborhood. In this case, we worked hard to save this lovely oak and it certainly does complement the house.

Love a Diocletian window. I also love the small sunroom leading into the guest bedroom. When designing a home, I often enjoy the âfound spacesâ that both create a charming affect and also avoid wasting square footage on often unusable hall ways spaces. Itâs all about getting creative with the process!

A couple of months ago SMU announced the movement of the law school to the east side of 75. This is the vision that our firm would propose, in contrast to the predictable modernist offering that has been presented. The original SMU buildings such as Dallas Hall and the McFarlin Auditorium remain the embodiment of Southern collegiate elegance. They shaped a neigbourhood and elevated the University to the bastion of academic excellence that it is today. Letâs get back to that. If you like what you see and you are an alumnus of SMU (or just a concerned citizen), let the administration know and together we will do what we can to make SMU beautiful again.
