this past september i was delighted to take part in the filming of @swarovskioptik_outdoor cl companion binocular campaign in the deserts of new mexico.
of course, i was sure to bring along my watercolors as they are one of my favorite tools in observing & documenting a new landscape. places like this make me so dang grateful to be one of the many critters living on this magical spinning planet of ours.

every time i make sukalki, it carries me home to northern spain, to the familiar streets of my town, to my abuelita’s kitchen, and the navarran pyrenees where my love for the mountains and the natural world all began. it’s a dish that warms you from the inside out, made for the long hush of autumn or the deep cold of winter. traditionally, sukalki is made with beef, but i’ve adapted the recipe to use venison from my big game hunts in my new home in western montana. you can find this recipe, and more, in the latest issue of the @mule_deer_foundation magazine.
We are soooooooo incredibly stoked and lucky to have one of my very favorite people @lapescadora joining us to help with the instruction portion of our Women's Weeks this year. Angler, Guide, Teacher, Photographer, Painter, Chef... maybe she'll even throw in some pop-up salsa dancing lessons??? This woman literally does it all!!! 💃🏻💃🏽💃🏼
We still have rods open for both weeks: May 3-8 Women's Intro to Saltwater Flyfishing and May 10-16 Women's Week. Truly THE BEST time: food, fishing, fun, it is once in a lifetime. 🎣🎣🎣
The Clark Fork watershed is my home. Guiding here lets me share these rivers with people from all over the world and teach them about the history of this place, including its legacy as the largest Superfund complex in the country. For me, fishing and conservation go hand in hand. If I can help even a few clients become better stewards of these waters, I feel like I’m doing my job.
Right now, a new federal rule proposed by the EPA could leave most of our small streams and wetlands unprotected. These waters feed our rivers, filter pollutants, and support the ecosystems our communities depend on. I want more people to understand what’s at stake and why protecting clean water matters to all of us.
