You place your border but I will still chase my dreams.
You only see one color I will still chase my dreams.
You say I do not belong here I still chase my dreams.
We work until the blood, sweat and tears have been the fertile for you grapes, vines suffocating me, I still chase my dreams.
American Dream. 2015
Writing a mission statement for Girls Just Wanna Load Trucks, and the inception of our organization did not spawn out of thin air. For me, this comes from a deeply personal and political place. Because, for folks like myself the many cultures I come from there has never been an opportunity to be apolitical or separate political from embodied life.
Every day I went to school I saw the barbed wire and border — staring right back at me. I am honored to come from a family that always encouraged me to go farther not for myself, but for the collective. To stand tall.
I have always dreamt of tearing down walls, literally and figuratively. I want us all to be free.
MashAllah. Alhamdulillah.
