Recent works by Melbourne based painter, Ksenia Shinkarenko utilise natural textiles with plant-based dyes prepared from raw botanical materials. Pictured here are three works developed for TRACE now showing at Lander—Se: “In Motion I + III’ and ‘Home Within’. Working with dyes including walnut, weld, madder and mulberry, her compositions develop layered tonal fields that reflect the warmth of autumn light and the gradual shift between seasons. TRACE: DINNER WITH THE ARTISTS Saturday, May 23 from 5pm Lander—Se invites an intimate evening within TRACE, surrounded by the exhibition works of @kseniashinkarenko.art + @drift_ceramics Set amongst naturally dyed paintings and hand-built ceramics, the evening offers a slower encounter with the works; intimate conversations with the artists over a shared dinner in the gallery, revealing more about material practice and process. Guests will enjoy a heartfelt dining experience by @commontable___ alongside local wine by @kerrigreens poured from hand-blown glass decanters by @ham_don . A series of sculptural vessels by Natalie Cootes @drift_ceramics Hand-built using coiling, pinching and slab construction, each form carries traces of the artist’s process — layered with sand, salt, crushed rock and impressions drawn from the natural world. Soft undulating surfaces and volcanic textures echo the rhythms of coastline and erosion. Created between the Mornington Peninsula and South Gippsland, the works reflect Natalie’s meditative approach to clay; guided by material, memory and place rather than imposed precision. ‘In Motion III’ by Ksenia Shinkarenko @kseniashinkarenko.art A work that feels suspended between gesture and erosion, layered with movement, light/shadow and residues of time. Created using naturally dyed hessian, ‘In Motion III’ holds the softness and unpredictability of plant matter, light and exposure.
