The lilac; a start from a start from a lilac planted by my great grandmother. Special indeed ❤️. The Painted Lady butterfly; starts life as a caterpillar hatched from a tiny egg then spins its own chrysalis and finally emerges as an amazing butterfly. Special indeed 💚. #nature #paintedlady #washingtonstate #lilac #butterfly #mygarden #amazingnature #mothernaturerocks

A trip out of the Palouse and to the ponds & marshes of Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge. Pictured is a Tundra Swan taking flight after I disrupted it and its mates peaceful float. A wonderful change of scenery & wildlife on a calm, beautiful weekday (had the place to myself) morning. Great views & sounds of the waterfowl & birds around the ponds. Lots of camas flower fields in the open spaces between stands of ponderosa pine and many Arrowleaf Balsamroot in bloom in the riparian areas. Although beware, as signage lets folks know that ticks are one of the most commonly encountered forms of wildlife in the refuge 😬. Fortunately, many paved or graveled paths to stay on. Here's how the website describes the refuge...... Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge encompasses over 23,000 acres in eastern Washington on the edge of the Columbia River Basin. The Channeled Scablands ecosystem that predominates the Refuge is unique within the National Wildlife Refuge System. Ponderosa pine, wetlands, meadow steppe and riparian habitat dominate the landscape. The refuge is approximately a 40-minute drive from Spokane, Washington. An abundance and diversity of wildlife and wildflowers awaits the traveling visitor. #nature #birds #swan #washingtonstate #inlandnorthwest #wildlife #peaceful #birdwatching #hiking #pnwlife #birdphotography #reflection

As the almond blossoms faded the bees attention turned to the perfectly timed pear blossoms. The pear blossoms don't have the sweet fragrance of the almond but the bees don't mind. Apples are next on the agenda and not far behind. #nature #spring

🦋Beautiful painted lady🌸 enjoying the nectar from an Arrowleaf Balsam Root flower. Both native on the Palouse. The hillsides are filled with Arrowleaf Balsam Root atm ✨. Comments made with the help of our nature loving granddaughter 😍. #hikingwithdog #washingtonstate #nature #butterfly #wildflower

Yesterday I had the opportunity to watch a fantastic film titled snail hunters. It’s much more than the title suggests. An engaging, informative, and entertaining film. Very much enjoyed it and the informative Q&A with two of the researchers and the films Director. So on Earth Day here’s to the people who dedicate their lives learning about Earths wildlife and climate; it’s past and present so we have the opportunity to do what’s best for the future. The researchers in the film are not only world class, scientist and researchers they are also wonderful down to earth people. If you go to you can download a link to the official trailer. This fantastic movie is being played at various film festivals around the country to enthusiastic audiences. It is well worth watching if you get a chance! #earthday #nature #science
