About 100 students from Stone Independent Prep helped plant a little over 400 trees for a riparian buffer along a Mill Creek tributary a couple weeks ago. We can’t thank them enough for all their hard work in helping us finish this project. 🌳

Get to know our staff! ☀️ Colin’s day to day activities include coordinating field visits with farm operators, inspecting and documenting BMPs, inspecting CAP construction sites, writing reports on what has been seen in the field, and entering data into various databases. Colin enjoys meeting new people every day, meeting the furry friends on each farm, taking in the wonderful views our Lancaster County farms have to offer, and getting creative to avoid fencing (especially electric). Some of Colin’s accomplishments include: 🌾Verification of 115 farm’s BMPs in 2025 🌾Provisional Act 38 Nutrient Management Planner

This week has been National Volunteer Week, and we want to celebrate and thank our volunteers who spend their time promoting the conservation of our natural resources. The District’s Water Quality Volunteer Coalition (WQVC) sample local streams for water chemistry, macroinvertebrates, and habitat. Their data collection is very valuable to the water quality monitoring goals of the county. 💧 If you're interested in volunteering, reach out or visit our website!📱

The BMP of the month for April is Prescribed Grazing! Prescribed Grazing aka Grazing Management is using grazing or browsing animals to manage vegetation and reach economic, ecological, and management objectives. Prescribed grazing manages the timing, intensity, duration, and frequency of grazing a specific pasture to ensure conservation goals are met. Following a grazing plan can help operators: 🐮 Improve pasture health and forage productivity 🐴 Reduce erosion and protect water quality 🐮 Reduce feed costs and extend the grazing season 🐴 Improve livestock health and increase production quality Rotational grazing is an easy way to help meet the prescribed grazing standards and allow the pasture to reestablish between passes. Prescribed grazing benefits the livestock, operators, and our natural resources all together!
