AFRICAN MEADOW: From Sun to Stone (A Collection Designed and Directed by Yulia Tlili)
“African Meadow” is a summer collection rooted in the elegance of the African plains. Its starting point is the graceful geometry of the oryx, eland, and gemsbok — animals whose streamlined silhouettes and harmonious proportions are mirrored in precise yet fluid tailoring. Their coats, in tones of burnt clay, mineral grey, sand, and bone, inspire a palette both deep and sunlit, timeless in its neutrality.
The texture and atmosphere are informed by the cinematic photography of Jacques Olivar, whose fashion images often carry a painterly use of light, shadow, and colour. While Olivar is known primarily for fashion storytelling rather than wildlife photography, some of his works — such as portraits created in Cape Town — capture the sun-bleached tones, warm contrasts, and natural luminosity reminiscent of African landscapes. These qualities translate into the collection through matte linens, silks with a soft sheen, and cottons that echo the dry crispness of sun-fired clay.
In “African Meadow”, tailoring is relaxed yet considered – jackets with a gentle drape and trousers that move like grass in a breeze and follow the body without restriction. The result is a wardrobe that, like the antelope, balances strength and grace, form and freedom. It is summer dressing designed for longevity: modern, wearable, and as enduring as the landscapes that inspired it.
