Shot on 16mm, from a young and very talented director, a DP whose short had recently won best short film at the Cannes film festival, a tireless crew who gave it their absolute best and never complained no matter how tired they were, a cast of young athletes who want to one day become the next great champion, this was our way to say 加油 Jiayou to Team China, and to all the Olympic athletes from all corners of the globe. Mongolian wrestlers have an important cultural status in traditional Mongolian society and are thought to embody ancient ideals of nobility, strength and chivalrous sportsmanship.
Genghis Khan used wrestling, known as Bökh, to keep his army in good physical condition and ready for combat. Wrestling was also used occasionally as a way of eliminating political rivals; Mongol history records incidents in which the Khan arranged to have political enemies killed during a wrestling match.
