I noticed on my weekly drive through Bee Caves and Cuernavaca that the yellow October wildflowers have started blooming again, right on time. There are a couple different varieties, but they're all a sunshine yellow, popping out along the edges of the roads.
This is a photo I took Fall 2024, around this time, maybe a bit later in the season, while I was taking my second photography class at Laguna Gloria. I took so many shots of this particular scene, hoping to get one clear enough to see the bee in a rare moment of stillness resting on the flower, and was excited when I saw this result. I love taking nature photos but I usually have the benefit of shooting plants that don't move much; I also prefer shooting in manual focus, so capturing insects and animals is always a challenge. I was proud of this one. 🌼 🐝

Jon Brion is one of my favorite film composers, and this is my favorite of his pieces, "Row" from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
This piece is very special to me and always resonates straight to my heart. It's reflective, it's peaceful, but it's full of emotion, suspensions, resolutions, and dissonance.
I love the transition in this scene from kids playing and singing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" to this more mature, emotionally complex adaptation on the theme. I feel like Brion really captures the feeling of looking back on childhood with sweetness, nostalgia, and some pain too, from the loss of innocence and simpler times. The whole movie is a bittersweet experience, remembering love, then the pain from loss/heartbreak, and then trying to forget--to then desperately wanting to remember again. 💔
