Thereās a moment in every artistās life when a quiet calling becomes impossible to ignore.
For me, that calling was directing.
I didnāt feel ready.
I didnāt feel āqualified.ā
And I definitely felt the weight of the responsibility that comes with guiding a story that holds so much truth.
But some stories ask you to rise.
Some stories insist that you grow into the person you need to be in order to tell them.
OWNERSHIP was that story for me.
Directing this film changed me.
Watching audiences lean in, pause, reflect, cry, and begin conversations they werenāt having before.
That changed me too.
It reminded me that filmmaking is not just about craft, itās about courage. Itās about creating space for humanity, honesty, and healing.
Iām grateful for every person who has watched this film, sat with it, and allowed it to spark something inside them. You are the reason stories like this matter.
If youāre an artist holding a story that scares you a littleā¦
donāt shrink from it.
You have no idea whose heart it might open.

Still soaking in the magic of the Phoenix Film Festival. š¬āØļø
What an incredible experience to share OWNERSHIP, connect with so many talented artists, and walk away with new friendships we truly value.
This weekend reminded us that film festivals are about so much more than screenings.
Theyāre about community.
Theyāre about conversation.
Theyāre about the people you meet along the way who inspire what comes next.
A heartfelt thank you to the Phoenix Film Festival and all the volunteers for creating such a meaningful space for storytellers and audiences to come together.
Weāre leaving inspired, grateful, and already dreaming about the next story we get to bring to life⦠hopefully back on this stage again.
Thank you to @phoenixfilmfest for having us. It was a fantastic experience.
So much gratitude for this moment. āØ
~Yvonne š
If you were in the room with us at the @phoenixfilmfestival ⦠you felt it. š
The conversations didnāt end when the credits rolled. They continued in the lobby, in the parking lot, on the drive home.
Thatās always been the hope.
OWNERSHIP is not just meant to be watched.
Itās meant to be talked about.
Reflected on.
Carried into your everyday conversations.
If something stayed with you, donāt let it stop there.
We created the OWNERSHIP Impact Campaign to give you tools, resources, and starting points to continue exploring, learning, and engaging in meaningful conversations within your own circles.
Because real change doesnāt happen in isolation.
It happens when weāre willing to lean in, listen, and see each other through a different lens.
Take the next step with us.

That truth sits at the heart of why we do what we do.
Through our mission INITIATE, INVEST, and IMPACT, we are committed to elevating underrepresented voices and telling stories that invite reflection, conversation, and change.
In this moment, when division feels loud.
Perspectives feel distant.
Storytelling becomes a way to preserve truth, hold memory, and make space for voices that need to be heard.
Take Note...
When only one version of a story exists, we lose something.
When more voices are heard, we begin to understand each other.
Storytelling is not just creative work.
This is historical work.
These stories are part of the history we are living now.
And they will matter. š

Weāre proud to spotlight Hymn, a soulful new production brought to life by Lower Depth Theatre in collaboration with Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. @LDTE
Blending R&B rhythms and gospel with deeply human storytelling, Hymn explores love, faith, and friendship while asking:
what does it take to be a good father, brother, or son?
Weāre especially excited to celebrate our co-founder Jason Delane Lee, who takes the stage as Benny alongside Chuma Gault as Gill. These two performers bring heart, vulnerability, and truth to this powerful story.
Written by acclaimed playwright Lolita Chakrabarti and directed by award-winning Gregg T. Daniel, this is the kind of theater that invites reflection, conversation, and connection.
š Running April 29 ā June 14
šļø Previews: April 29 - May 1

Itās easy to feel on edge these days.
Conversations feel shorter. Reactions feel stronger. And sometimes it feels like the distance between us is only growing.
But we still have a choice.
We can let those moments widen the gapā¦
or we can choose something braver.
In the book "I Never Thought of It That Way", Monica Guzman reminds us that most of us live surrounded by people who think like we do. It feels comfortable, but it also means we rarely challenge what we believe or truly understand someone elseās perspective.
And thatās where the divide grows.
What if we responded differently?
What if, when a conversation gets tense, we didnāt immediately push back?
What if we paused⦠and listened for whatās underneath the reaction?
Not to agree.
But to understand.
At Lagralane, this is why we believe in storytelling. Because stories invite us to sit in someone elseās experience, to see a little more clearly, and maybe soften just enough to have the conversation weāve been avoiding.
If youāre looking for a place to start, this book is one we highly recommend.
Because healing doesnāt happen by accident.
It happens when we choose curiosity over certainty. š
