LASUBEB PARTNERS ICPC ......sensitizes on anti-corrupt practices.
In a bid to foster transparency and ensure accountability in its operations, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) on Tuesday, 8th April 2025, partnered with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to inaugurate the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) within the Board and sensitize members of staff on ethical conduct and anti-corruption practices.
The sensitization programme which held at the LASUBEB headquarters in Maryland, Lagos, brought together senior officials of the Agency, departmental heads, and other members of staff of the Board.
It was an engaging and interactive session as led by the representatives from ICPC.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, emphasized the importance of institutional integrity and public trust in the delivery of basic Education in the State. "Corruption undermines development and robs our children of the qualitative education they deserve. The establishment of the ACTU is not just a procedural move, but a transformative step toward ensuring that public resources are used judiciously and for the purpose they are meant for," he said.
The SUBEB Chairman who was represented by a Board Member, Dr. Bayo Adefuye , reiterated the Board’s commitment to maintaining ethical standards in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus agenda, and encouraged staff to embrace transparency, due process, and accountability in all their dealings.
The Chairman of the Commission who was represented by Mr. Alex Chukwurah, the Resident Anti-corruption Commissioner, Lagos state, highlighted the role of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit as an internal mechanism, responsible for promoting good governance, ethical compliance, detecting corrupt practices, and serving as a liaison between the ICPC and the agency.
The sensitization session featured interactive discussions on recognizing corruption red flags, whistleblower protection, and the importance of integrity in public service.

LASG UNVEILS EDUCATION ACCESS FUND
..... To expand opportunities for children.
The Lagos State Government has officially launched the Lagos Education Access Fund (LEAF), a strategic initiative aimed at expanding access to quality basic education and improving learning outcomes for children across the State.
The programme was formally unveiled by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, at a high-level event held at Lagos House, Marina, in the presence of government officials, development partners, education stakeholders and representatives of the international community.
The initiative is being implemented through the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) in partnership with the Education Outcomes Fund (EOF) and other development partners as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen inclusive and equitable basic education in Lagos State.
In his keynote address, Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated the State Government’s commitment to ensuring that every child in Lagos has access to free and quality basic education, describing education as a critical driver of social mobility, human capital development and economic growth.
He disclosed that the initiative is supported by a $25 million outcomes-based education fund designed to support 200,000 children across Lagos communities.
According to the Governor, the programme will facilitate the enrolment of up to 50,000 out-of-school children between the ages of six and fourteen into formal basic education, while also strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy for 150,000 pupils currently enrolled in public schools across the State.
Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that the initiative builds on the achievements recorded under Project Zero, launched in 2021 to identify and re-integrate out-of-school children into the education system. Through the intervention, over 36,000 children have already been returned to classrooms across the State.
He added that the programme aligns with the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Development Agenda of the Lagos State Government, particularly the pillar on Education and Technology, which focuses on strengthening human capital development and building a knowledge-driven society.
