✨ Pavillon Afronova is thrilled to present the screening of… 🎬 DISCOVERING BESSIE COLEMAN - a short documentary film She broke every barrier the world placed before her and took to the skies anyway. Bessie Coleman was the first African-American and Native American woman to earn an international pilot’s license. Yet her story remains unknown to so many. This inspiring documentary brings her legacy to life through the voices of those she continues to move, her family, aviation professionals, and celebrated figures like actress and author Karyn Parsons, sharing the moment they first discovered a woman who refused to be told no. More than history. A call to dare. 📍 Pavillon Afronova 🗓️ 17/05/2026 #DiscoveringBessieColeman #PavillonAfronova #Cinema #MdF2026 #Cannes2026 @jered.everson @ladyav8rbeth

Still reflecting on such a meaningful experience being invited to speak at @hyatt B.L.A.C.K.’s Black History Month program ✨ What stays with me most is the conversation, the openness, the connection, and the shared commitment to growth, representation, and possibility. Being able to share my journey, along with the legacy of Bessie Coleman, and to have it resonate in such a genuine way… that is something I don’t take lightly. I’m truly honored that my story, the challenges, the lessons, and the growth on the other side, continues to inspire others. Moments like this remind me that storytelling has power. It creates space, it builds bridges, and it helps the next generation see themselves in places they may not have imagined before. More than anything, it felt like community. Like family. And that is something I will carry with me. And then… there were all the thoughtful touches that made the experience even more special, the warm welcome, the beautiful accommodations, the personal details (yes, even Jamaican food 🥹🇯🇲), and the opportunity to connect beyond the stage with such incredible people (and even a few family members 💙❤️💙❤️). It was also such a treat to spend time with and witness the talent of Eben Hewitt , Alison Brown, Marc Taylor and Miles from the The Two Whatevers; a connection I’ll carry with me and look forward to staying in touch A heartfelt thank you to Tyronne, Ronisha, Myra, Alexia, and the entire Hyatt B.L.A.C.K. team for the invitation, your care, and your intentionality. I’m especially grateful for your support in ensuring every attendee received a copy of Queen of the Skies, allowing the story and its impact to continue far beyond the room. Truly grateful. Truly inspired. And I’m looking forward to continuing this journey together. #Gratitude #HyattBLACK #BlackHistoryMonth #Aviation #Storytelling RepresentationMatters QueenOfTheSkies ✈️

Still processing such a full-circle and deeply emotional moment at my book signing with Banyan Pilot Shop. Walking back into a place where I once worked at the front desk and in the pilot shop. From helping customers, selling supplies, learning the aviation business from the ground up to now returning as an author with Queen of the Skies was something I’ll never forget. What made it truly unforgettable was the people. My former boss, Don, who I worked under more than 25 years ago, came out to support me. Seeing him there took me right back to those early days; flight school, instructing, working at Banyan while chasing my dream of becoming an airline pilot with American Eagle then American Airlines. I was emotional in the best way. My chief pilot from my American Eagle days, who taught me so much about leadership, also came with his wife. I can still remember sitting airport reserve from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., learning, observing, growing and later being recognized as Pilot of the Quarter. Those moments shaped me more than I realized at the time. Seeing friends, mentors, and people I’ve poured into over the years show up meant everything. From Drew, one of the first scholarship recipients I supported through American Airlines, to Joanne from the 99s, to so many I’ve mentored along the way… it felt like every chapter of my journey was in one room. I’m also so grateful for the support from Banyan’s team and the incredible reach of your social media post, it was amazing to see how far it traveled and how many people connected with it. And then there were the quiet, powerful moments, like Rita (my former Chief Pilots wife) saying, “I’ve heard so much about you,” and just feeling overwhelmed with gratitude for the path that led here. This journey has not been linear, and it hasn’t always been easy, but moments like this remind me why I keep going. To be able to use my story to inspire the next generation of aviators is the greatest honor. Thank you to everyone who came out, supported, and continues to believe in this journey. I am beyond grateful. Truly. #QueenOfTheSkies #FullCircleMoment #AviationJourney #WomenInAviation #Gratitude Leadership Mentorship

My heart goes out to everyone affected by the LaGuardia accident, pilots, flight attendants, passengers, air traffic controllers, and emergency responders. ✈️ We grieve together as a tight-knit aviation family and hold all involved in our thoughts and prayers. Let’s honor them by keeping safety and compassion at the center as the investigation unfolds. 🙏🏽

We’re thrilled to share that our documentary short Discovering Bessie Coleman has been selected for the Women’s History Month programme at the Thomas Edison Film Festival, an Academy Award®–qualifying festival. For the month of March 2026, it is featured on the landing page of the festival’s website. Discovering Bessie Coleman has been selected by the American Black Film Festival for inflight entertainment on American Airlines flights starting March 1. In this film, we told Bessie Coleman’s story from a Jamaican perspective, a unique approach that was risky but deeply rewarding. In doing so, we also honour Jamaican aviation legends alongside African-American pioneers in aviation. "Special thanks to Captain Beth Powell—a friend since our first form at high school. It was a true pleasure to collaborate with her on this beautiful project honouring aviation pioneer Bessie Coleman." - Lorna Chin 🔗 #oscars #womenshistorymonth #womensupportingwomen #women #womeninspiringwomen

✨ In honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day , I’m honored to share a story rooted in courage, legacy, and aviation and aerospace history and excited to announce that you may now watch my award-winning documentary, “Discovering Bessie Coleman”, in the skies.✈️ ✨ On Aug. 8, 2022, in honor of Bessie Coleman, American Airlines made history by operating a flight with an all-Black female crew, from pilots and flight attendants to cargo and maintenance team members. This marked the first time in the airline’s history that every role on a flight was filled by Black women, honoring Bessie Coleman, the first Black woman in the world to earn a pilot’s license in 1921. Piloting that historic flight inspired Captain Beth Powell to share this remarkable story, preserve Bessie’s legacy, and inspire future generations of aviators. That passion became her debut documentary short, Discovering Bessie Coleman. Now, you too can experience the award-winning film that inspires courage, uplifts freedom, and celebrates the power of defying limits. Discovering Bessie Coleman has been selected by the @americanblackfilmfestival for inflight entertainment on American Airlines flights starting March 1. With American Airlines operating over 6,000 flights daily to more than 350 destinations in over 50 countries, Bessie’s story will now reach audiences around the world. Thank you for joining us on this journey of history, honor, and inspiration. ✨ #americanair #womenhistorymonth #aviationstoryteller #Queenoftheskies #discoveringbessiecoleman
