Teaching kids body safety through music? Yes, please! LAC Namibia applauds the incredible work of teacher Gelda Waterboer from Otjiwarongo for creating her ‘Private Parts’ awareness song for children. We’ve outlined how to report child abuse under the law. Now comes the real power: knowing where to go. To truly answer the ‘Private Parts’ song’s call - Let’s not just listen. Let’s speak up and act by sharing the contacts and steps on reporting in your social communities. #ProtectOurKids #BodySafety #LACNamibia #ChildProtection #privatepartssong @geldawaterboer

Meet Ruth Murangi-Henguva – a Paralegal with Legal Research & Communication Paralegal (STADIO, Namibia). Ruth is often the first point of contact at LAC – supporting walk-in clients, calls, emails, and messages, and ensuring people receive guidance on legal and human rights issues. She takes statements, liaises between clients and lawyers, and helps prepare cases for litigation. Behind the scenes, she keeps things running: managing communication channels, organising meetings, compiling reports, maintaining records and supporting research and outreach work. Fluent in Otjiherero, English and Afrikaans, Ruth also speaks elementary Oshiwambo, Damara/Nama and French and is committed to transparency, efficiency, and helping those who need it most. #LAC #AccessToJustice #HumanRights #behindthescenesoflac #LegalYear2026

Meet Buike-Tobe Steffanie Adigwe 👩🏾‍⚖️ An admitted legal practitioner with an BA law, LLB (University of Pretoria) and an LLM in International Trade Law (Stellenbosch University), Buike-Tobe brings experience across the Magistrate’s Court, High Court, and Supreme Court of Namibia. But for her, the law is about more than courtrooms — it’s about people, dignity, and fairness. At the Legal Assistance Centre, she works in public interest and human rights law, driven by a commitment to access to justice and supporting vulnerable communities. Her interests span human rights, environmental justice, and corporate goverance — always with the goal of using the law to challenge injustice and contribute to meaningful change in Namibia. “I believe the law should work for everyone.” #BehindTheScenesOfLAC #HumanRights #AccessToJustice #Namibia #LegalYear2026

The Legal Assistance Centre joins the nation in mourning the passing of Hon. Uerikua. In 2020, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, together with UNHCR, initiated a national study on statelessness and the risks faced by stateless persons in Namibia. The LAC was entrusted to carry out this important work, with the report validated in March 2021. During his tenure as Governor of the Otjozondjupa Region, Hon. Uerikua played a key role in supporting this initiative — facilitating engagement with Regional Councils and helping bring attention to the realities faced by stateless and at-risk communities. Stateless persons often live without nationality or proof thereof, leaving them excluded from many fundamental rights and protections. Hon. Uerikua understood the urgency of these challenges and consistently stood for the dignity and inclusion of marginalised communities. His commitment to uplifting the most vulnerable, bridging divides, and amplifying unheard voices will not be forgotten. May his soul rest in peace. #InMemory #HumanRights #Statelessness #LAC #8thnationalassemblyofnamibia

As Namibia marks Workers’ Day on 1 May 🇳🇦 We’re re-sharing resources to support safer, fairer workplaces for all in our story. Listen to the Sex Podcast Namibia episode on sexual harassment in the workplace, where LAC’s Yolande Engelbrecht explains what you can do if you’re experiencing it. You can also swipe through slides published by Sister Namibia, based on LAC’s information materials on the same topic. Let’s work together to build workplaces grounded in human rights, dignity, and respect. #WorkersDay #Namibia #HumanRights #SafeWorkplaces #AccessToJustice #LAC @sister_namibia

As Lesbian Visibility Week comes to an end 🏳️‍🌈 “Do not judge.” This is how Gustafin’s story begins. In this video, a mother shares her lived reality — the quiet conversations, the difficult moments, and the strength it takes to keep going. She speaks about what helps families cope, what still needs to change, and the simple but powerful message she carries: dignity, understanding, and acceptance. Her story also reflects a broader reality – many LGBTQI+ persons in Namibia continue to face stigma, discrimination, and gaps in legal knowledge that affect their everyday lives. And yet, there is also hope: in community conversations, in shared experiences, and in creating spaces where people can speak and be heard. To anyone going through something similar – you are not alone. — This video was produced through community workshops and outreach supported by the Marang Fund. Through its Gender Research & Advocacy Project, the Legal Assistance Centre (LAC) works to close gaps in legal knowledge on LGBTQI+ rights across Namibia — because dignity and rights belong to everyone. #LGBTIQRights #Marangfund #HumanRights #AccessToJustice #LegalEmpowerment @genderlinks

Honouring a pillar of Namibia’s justice system ⚖️ LAC Director Toni Hancox attended the Valedictory Motion Court for Mrs Elsie Schickerling, celebrating her years of dedicated service as Registrar of the High Court since 2009. “I have known Elsie from her very first days as the Registrar. She was efficient but did not spoon feed us! Elsie, thank you for your years of service and later, for becoming a friend. Happy Retirement!” #legalyear2026 #behindthescenesoflac

As the world marked “Our Power, Our Planet,” we focused on what sustains us all: water. 💧 Clean water is a human right. Let’s protect it. At LAC, access to justice means access to information. That’s why we broke down complex facts about ISL/ISR mining into clear, simple language–so every Namibian can understand what’s at stake. Because the decisions being made today will shape livelihoods for generations to come, especially in Hardap and Omaheke. Now is the time to get informed. 📢 Share this post to spread awareness. #EarthDay2026 #OurPowerOurPlanet #ProtectSTAS #RightToWater #environmentaljustice @tafytangarts.illustrator story: @mercedesovis @saumanamibia

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘁. 🌍💧 This #EarthDay, Stampriet Aquifer Uranium Mining Association (SAUMA) stands in solidarity with Namibia’s leading environmental protectors.
