History: Sunn Musical Equipment Company was founded in Tualatin, OR in the late 60’s by brothers Norm and Conrad Sundholm. At first, they employed vacuum tube topology with Dynaco transformers then in the early to mid 70’s added solid state amplifiers to their line of equipment. Silver-face as generation 1 and red-face as generation 2, Studio, Concert, and Coliseum were designated to represent the various models’ power output and application. Fender eventually acquired the company in 1985.

Series post 1/5: Earth Sound Research Corporation (ESR) Original 2000 guitar bass amp is a 2 late 1970’s channel 140 watt amplifier with spring reverb, distortion, slave output, and in some versions, an FX loop. The channels can be bridged for multiple tone options and cross patching to other amplifiers.
History: ESR, initially a division of ISC Audio was founded in 1975 with a factory in Farmingdale, New York. The company made various tube amplifiers at first reminiscent of the earlier Plush from the 60’s then went on to make obvious copies of solid state guitar/bass amps, PA systems, and pedals. “The demise of ESR was not caused by any form of litigation or infringement proceedings, rather, they simply folded for financial reasons as so many other short-lived instrument amplification companies have over the years.”
