Today we wear pink. Not because it is trendy. Not because it is cute. But because bullying silences voices, and at Labworks Publishing, protecting voices is our work. Every child deserves to feel safe telling their story. Every child deserves to be heard without fear. Kindness is powerful. Protection is powerful. Community is powerful. #PinkShirtDay #LabworksPublishing #EmpowerYoungVoices #AntiBullying #KindnessMatters ProtectOurChildren StudentVoice SafeSchools

COME HEAR A STORY — Episode Two: Skin & Self-Love For generations, many Black children grew up under the shadow of colourism. During slavery and colonization, lighter skin was often treated differently. It sometimes meant safer treatment, closer proximity to power, or greater opportunity. Over time, these systems planted quiet messages that darker skin was something to diminish, compare, or correct. Those messages did not disappear. They travelled through generations in subtle ways. But history does not get the final word. In Cadence Learns Self-Love, Cadence is a chocolate chip cookie. Beneath the sweetness of the story is something deeper. This little cookie looks at herself and wishes she were something else. Maybe less chocolatey. Maybe different. Maybe more acceptable. As the story unfolds, she begins to understand that what makes her chocolatey is exactly what makes her special. Her colour. Her richness. Her uniqueness. And in the song inspired by the book, she declares: “I am chippy chocolatey. I love my chippy chocolatey.” It is not just a chant. It is acceptance. It is pride. It is self-love. 🎧 Turn your sound on. Come hear a story. Then stream our number one children’s song “Chippy Chocolatey” by LabKids Music on iTunes and Spotify. Visit to explore the full story.

COME HEAR A STORY — Voice & Accent For years, the way Black people spoke was judged before they were ever understood. Long before the Caribbean became what we know today, Africans were taken from their homelands and scattered across islands already inhabited by Indigenous peoples such as the Arawak and the Carib. Each group carried its own languages, rhythms, and ways of naming the world. In this forced meeting of peoples, something new had to be created. Africans from many regions, Indigenous communities, and European colonizers now shared the same space. Out of survival, memory, and adaptation, new ways of speaking were formed. Creole. Patois. Dialects shaped by African roots, Indigenous influence, and European overlay. This is Black history in the Caribbean. Not only in events, but in language. In sound. In the rhythm of speech passed from generation to generation. These were never broken versions of a language. They were new languages carrying history in every word. Izzy’s New Life – The Way I Talk discusses a child in a new country being bullied for her accent. As she grows, she learns that her voice is not something to hide or be ashamed of. It becomes something she is proud of and uses as an opening to tell others about her country, her culture, and her history. 🎧 Turn your sound on.

COME HEAR A STORY. This year for Black History Month, Labworks Publishing is doing something different. We are not highlighting book covers. We are not posting quotes. We are sharing the deeper truths carried inside the stories we publish. Through illustration and voice, we will retell the messages of these books the way stories have always been shared in our culture. Spoken. Felt. Passed down. Throughout the month, you will hear stories inspired by themes of voice, identity, skin, belonging, culture, and truth. Some rooted in history. Some rooted in childhood. All rooted in lived Black experience. 🎧 Turn your sound on. Come hear a story. Visit for more.
