An intro (or re-intro!) the Louisiana Bucket Brigade! ✊🌍 For almost 25 years, we’ve worked alongside fenceline communities to hold the petrochemical industry accountable and fight for a healthier, more just future. From tackling environmental racism in ‘Cancer Alley’ to protecting our coasts and fishing commmunitites from gas exports, we’re on the frontlines of change in Louisiana. Join us as we end the petrochemical industry’s destruction of Louisiana and create a healthier, pollution-free future. 🔗 Learn more, volunteer, or get involved through the link in our bio!

Article from @theadvocatebr @ruralrootslouisiana , Louisiana Bucket Brigade and @ccrjustice brought a public records case against Ascension Parish government in December. For months, Ascension Parish has attempted to block the release of public records related to Non-Disclosure Agreements signed over the proposed Hyundai Steel plant in Ascension Parish, as well as Industrial Development Board records tied to agreements with Hyundai. A judge is now reviewing those documents to decide if they are exempt from Public Records Law or not. These are records that the public needs so that local people can have agency and make informed decisions about their community.

Yesterday, we were back in court alongside @ruralrootslouisiana and the @ccrjustice for a hearing in our public records case that we filed 9 months ago. For months, Ascension Parish has attempted to block the release of public records related to Non-Disclosure Agreements signed over the proposed Hyundai Steel plant in Ascension Parish, as well as Industrial Development Board records tied to agreements with Hyundai. This lack of transparency around new industrial projects in Louisiana is designed to push developments forward behind closed doors, keeping local communities from having the information they need to make informed decisions about their land, homes, and future. We will not let that happen. We deserves to know what is being planned in their communities.

Thank you so much to all who choose to support the future of leaders in Louisiana for GiveNOLA Day! Together we raised $26,121 from 175 donors – we are floored!     In these unprecedented times, the NextGen Summer Academy empowers young people living in “Cancer Alley” to recognize a wolf in sheep’s clothing and build a different future. ExxonMobil, Dow Chemical, and Shell have billboards all over Louisiana with claims of helping our state, with a particular focus on education. We will not hand over young minds and hearts to these rapacious companies. Thank you for making the NextGen Summer Academy expansion possible... And thank you for standing with us!

Today marks the start of early giving for GiveNOLA Day on May 5th! This GiveNOLA Day we are raising funds to expand the NextGen summer youth program in partnership with @inclusivela in St. James Parish. In summer 2025, LABB launched the NextGen youth program with @ruralrootslouisiana , a group based in Ascension Parish, focused on helping young people understand and protect their communities. The NextGen program will continue this year and expand to St. James Parish, working with 3rd–5th graders. Developed with Inclusive Louisiana, the curriculum will help students connect with the Mississippi River, explore mapping, and learn why clean air and water are important. Visit the link in our bio to learn more and invest in the future leaders of Louisiana this GiveNOLA Day! #givenoladay

The Down By The River Bike Ride is so much more than just a ride. It’s an experience that brings you face to face with two powerful forces in Louisiana: the environmental justice movement and local Black history. The ride transforms depressing sites—dumps, refineries and chemical plants—into powerful beacons of resistance, a lens through which the past and present are applied to today’s environmental movement. Join our next group ride on May 9th! Book at the link in our bio!
