If you’re new here, meet @dir._david_rountree , the owner of LA Acting Studios and the reason our training looks and feels like a real film set. David has been directing for 23 years, with 6 feature films under his belt, plus 9 films he’s written and produced. He’s currently producing both a TV show and a feature, and he brings that real world experience directly into the classroom. He started as an actor, so he understands the actor brain. But he trains you the way a director needs you to work on set: technically sharp, emotionally grounded, and camera‑ready. At LA Acting Studios, you learn: • How to work on set with a real crew and real cameras • How to tell the story visually, not just emotionally • How to find your light, hit your mark, and use props correctly • How to stay open to camera so the audience connects • How to deliver performances that actually cut together in the edit Everything is filmed as authentically as possible and you walk away with professional quality footage that you can use to market yourself in the industry. If you want to train with someone who actually works in the business and teaches you how to work in it too, this is where you start. For those of you not in LA, you can train with David ONLINE and learn what directors need from your self tape! Actors don’t get notes on this in most classes but on a real set, it matters. @dir._david_rountree breaks down why staying open to camera is essential for emotional connection and camera technique. From “bird beaking” to blocking your own face with the camera side arm, these tiny habits can make or break a performance on screen. When you understand how the camera reads you, your acting becomes clearer, stronger, and more professional. Most actors wait until they’re on set to learn how a set actually works; and that’s the fastest way to burn opportunities. LA Acting Studios was built to fix that. We’re the only school in LA that trains actors on real sets, with real cameras, every single class. You learn the craft and the environment you’ll be hired into. So when you book, you show up like a professional! Whether you’re starting out or leveling up, our Phase 1 to Masterclass pathway gives you the technique, confidence, and on camera experience that casting and directors expect from working actors. If you’re serious about your career, this is where you train! Audit a class. See the difference. Become the actor who’s ready for set. DM “AUDIT” for details. Send this to an actor you know would benefit! Share this to let actors know where to train on camera and on set.

Most actors burn through all their emotional fuel before the story ever needs it. @dir._david_rountree breaks down why taking micro beats throughout a scene actually works against you. If you play every moment like it’s significant, then when you finally hit the catalyst, the midpoint, or the all is lost, there’s nothing left for the audience to feel. By the time you reach the big beat, it becomes the boy who cried wolf because the audience has already been conditioned to believe that nothing truly matters, because every moment was played at the same emotional volume. This is why understanding story structure is essential for actors. The structure tells you where the meaning lives. It tells you when the audience is supposed to catch up. And it tells you which beats actually shift the story so your performance can land with impact. When you know the architecture of the scene, you stop acting moment to moment and start acting in alignment with the story the audience is tracking. DM AUDIT to train with us.

Most actors watch movies for the performances. But working actors watch for the structure. Wicked: Part 1 follows the formula beat for beat and once you see it, you can’t unsee it. The setup, the catalyst, the midpoint… it’s all there, and it’s all intentional. Understanding structure isn’t about being a writer. It’s about understanding why scenes exist, what your character is doing inside the larger machine, and how your performance fits into the story the audience is tracking. When you can recognise the beats, you stop acting in isolation and start acting with the story. And that’s when your choices get sharper, cleaner, and more usable on camera. Once you undersdtand how it works, you can apply it to your self tapes too! DM AUDIT to train with us.

@romantalcantara came into Phase 1 and immediately noticed the difference of training on set. Everything was being filmed, three cameras running at once, and he had to stay aware of where he was in each frame. That alone shifted how he thought about placement, angles, and how the camera actually reads an actor. One of his biggest takeaways was learning how to lens dance and understanding how to adjust his body so he stays visible across all three cameras. For him, that skill alone changed the way he approaches on camera work. Training in an environment where the cameras are rolling, the set is real, and the technical notes matter gave him a level of awareness he hadn’t experienced before. DM AUDIT to train with us.

Most actors don’t realise how quickly a prop can become a continuity problem. The moment you pick something up, you’ve committed to matching that action across every angle and every take and if it doesn’t match, the editor can’t use it. That’s why David always tells actors to ask about your props: “How does this prop show up on screen?” Because that answer determines how you use it. If it’s in the shot, can you match it every single time? If it’s not essential, can you use it off screen so continuity isn’t an issue? If it is essential, is it important enough that production needs an insert of it? And once you use it in a take, can you repeat that behaviour for the rest of the scene? Props affect timing, blocking, eyelines, and how the camera reads your performance. They’re not a small thing, they’re part of the story. And actors who understand how props play on camera make the editor’s job easier and protect their own best takes. DM AUDIT to train with us. #LAActingStudios #ActorTips #ActorHelp #ProActor

Most actors don’t realize how much responsibility comes with holding a prop on camera. The moment you pick something up, you’ve introduced a continuity element and if it’s in the shot, it has to match every single take. That’s why @dir._david_rountree always tells actors to ask one simple question before the camera rolls: “How does this prop show up on screen?” Because that answer determines everything. If the prop is visible, can you realistically match it every time? If it’s not essential, can you use it off screen so continuity isn’t a problem? If it is essential, is it important enough that production needs an insert of it? And if the prop changes hands or positions, will you be able to keep track of that continuity? Actors get into trouble when they treat props like afterthoughts. But props are part of the story, part of the blocking, and part of what the editor has to cut together. If you’re inconsistent, the editor can’t use half the takes and that affects the entire scene. Being aware of your props isn’t about being “technical.” It’s about being a professional who understands how the camera reads behavior and how continuity keeps the story clean.
