A Mandarin duck (Aix galericulata) - native to East Asia, yet quietly at home in parts of Europe now, including Berlin.
The males feel almost unreal in spring - their breeding plumage unfolding into orange sails, deep blues and finely drawn lines that look more painted than grown.
Unlike most ducks, they nest in tree cavities and move through wooded spaces with an ease that feels almost deliberate.
This one, in Volkspark Friedrichshain, showed no trace of shyness - as if it carried its own rarity with quiet certainty 🙃

As of today, we have learned that the incomparable, unforgettable vegetarian brunch buffet of Café Morgenrot (@cafe_morgenrot ) on Kastanienallee - mourned since its disappearance six years and one month ago - will reopen its doors next month, in May 2026.
For now, it will return for a two-month trial run only. Which means: it has to do so well that they never again dare to imagine a future without a vegetarian brunch buffet there.

Hace 16 años, haciendo autostop por Andalucía, pasé cerca de Córdoba… pero nunca llegué a entrar.
Hoy, finalmente, sí. En medio de un roadtrip con Rita, cruzamos el puente romano sobre el Guadalquivir y aparece uno de los lugares más extraordinarios de Europa: la Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba. Un edificio que no pertenece a una sola época ni a una sola religión - sino a todas las que pasaron por aquí.
La historia empieza en 785, cuando el emir omeya Abd al-Rahman I manda construir una gran mezquita sobre restos de edificios anteriores. Durante dos siglos se amplía varias veces hasta convertirse en una de las mayores del mundo islámico: un bosque casi infinito de columnas romanas y visigodas reutilizadas, y los famosos arcos rojos y blancos que parecen repetirse hasta el horizonte.
Cuando Córdoba era, hacia el año 1000, una de las ciudades más grandes y cultas del mundo.
Luego llega 1236: la ciudad es conquistada por los reinos cristianos. En lugar de destruir la mezquita, la transforman. Y en el siglo XVI se construye en medio de ella una catedral renacentista gigantesca - literalmente dentro del antiguo templo islámico.
El resultado es algo único:
un diálogo de piedra entre al-Ándalus y la Europa cristiana, entre Oriente y Occidente.
Uno de esos lugares donde la historia no se borra.
Se superpone.
