This day celebrates a growing national movement to expand access to sports, champion disability inclusion and honor the legacy of civil rights protections. This inaugural annual day of awareness promotes equal access for the one in four Americans living with a disability—ensuring everyone has the opportunity to play, compete and thrive in sports. That commitment to inclusion is already making an impact.
Last year, the PlayLA program surpassed one million registrations, opening the door for youth of all abilities to participate in high-quality sports programs at local recreation centers in Los Angeles. As part of PlayLA’s legacy, 12 adaptive sports programs now offer accessible, low-to-no-cost opportunities for young people to engage in adaptive and Paralympic-style sports across LA.
Together, we’re building a more inclusive future—on and off the field.
