November 20 marks the beginning of the Mexican Revolution, a struggle waged by Mexico’s peasantry for better conditions and against inequalities, oppression, and tyranny.
On November 20, 1910 the people of Mexico began the fight against Porfirio Díaz, who would be ousted in 1911 after 35 years of tyrannical dictatorship.
The Mexican Revolution lasted until 1920 (historians differ on when it ended) and brought several social and institutional victories for the Mexican people. Among the main figures of the Revolution are Emiliano Zapata, leader of the Ejercito Libertador del Sur (Southern Liberation Army) and Pancho Villa, the leader of the División del Norte (Northern Division)
