‘ERFENIS’
The two brothers dive deeply into the stories of their grandparents and parents, whose experiences and traditions have laid the foundation for the world they live in today. These stories are brought back to life through dance, with each movement capturing the essence of family, culture, and values.
But the journey goes further. As the brothers rediscover the memories of their ancestors, they also confront their own search for identity. What does it really mean to stay true to the traditions that have shaped them, while also following their own path? The piece becomes not only a visual retelling of the past, but also a reflection on the complex relationship between history and personal identity.
“Erfenis” aims to give a voice to those who, like many young people with a migration background, grow up with questions such as: Who am I? Why does my life feel different? How do I find my place in a world that sometimes doesn’t seem to understand where I come from? The piece highlights how these struggles can shape us, but also shows how connection and family can be powerful sources of support.
Piece I made 2 years ago and performed with little brother
