ABSTRACT FITS x The Stripes Edit
Love a good stripe. It’s the perfect pattern to me. Simple lines and high contrast colors repeating over and over. 🤌🏽 It kind of creates a satisfying rhythm. Like a really good song loop.
Oil pastel on Kraft paper.

I know I need to give my girl some space but she just gets better and better with each iteration! I have like 2 more ideas before I put her to rest.
I think this image of Flo Jo is so striking for me bc it represents the intersection of athleticism and aesthetics. It’s one of the reasons I also love black women in tennis. Her form represents the right to be both powerful and stylish 😍.

I’ve been doing this series mostly with oil pastel sticks but recently tried water color for the first time and I’m kind of hooked. Also, if it involves my Bugs Bunny tie it will always be my favorite fit.
I’ve been leaning into the constraints of this @paper_republic drawing book. Small scale, limited color palette. This series has really forced me to get to the point. And the point for me is the everyday moments we almost forgot to look at - like going with my nephew to get a haircut. Blowing out the candles on my 16th birthday, two girls walking on Inkwell beach in matching towels, Aunt Viv and Uncle Phil in matching robes, ordering at an ice cream truck, throwing something on the grill, pretending to be asleep when your mom comes in the room, my brother’s cornrows, the list goes on…

I’ve been working on a painting series around black women in film entitled “101 Black Women to Watch Before you Die.” Yes, I’m painting all 101 and I’m half way through. Troy was #16 and instantly a crowd fave. I have a very sentimental connection to her character and the movie Crooklyn. (Shout out to @officialspikelee 🐐). So I wanted to make it available and wearable for everyone that feels the same. Shirts are now available on kyndacee.com you can tap the link in my bio to purchase! Thank youuu 🥹🫂♥️♥️

“Back on 74” | This painting is based on a photo I took of my friends on the last day of 5th grade at 74th Street School. A day that felt like the true end of an era. Moving on from elementary school was incredibly significant for me. I still think about it. I remember feeling that this unique chapter of life was drawing to a close, which is why I snapped so many pictures and why these memories, and the photos, have stayed with me all these years.
