I’m so excited about this release! It’s the first single of a 6 song EP from Mary Heather Hickman and it’s hard to pick a favorite. So much hard work went into this from a group of incredibly talented folks. I’m honored to have produced, engineered and mixed this and can’t wait for the entire collection to be out in the world!

Presidential success!! Summited the 4 northern Presidential peaks; Madison, Adams, Jefferson and Washington. Those are the 4th, 2nd, 3rd and tallest mountains in New Hampshire respectively and some of the tallest east of the Mississippi River. I achieved my goal of accomplishing something difficult that I’ve dreamed of for years. I trained hard, worked through the mental stuff, dealt with sickness, injuries and life tragedies. Ultimately ran out of time to attempt the 3 southern peaks of the traverse but every summit, every view, every breath of fresh air and sip of water from a mountain spring was a victory!
I owe so much gratitude for two people whom without them I would not have been capable of achieving this goal. @aniahammar who is always so loving and supportive but her encouragement makes me feel like anything is possible and the sacrifices she made to allow me to pursue this undertaking were invaluable. And my trainer @dw.walters who’s not only been instrumental in helping me with my journey to be healthy in general but an enthusiastic and critical figure for preparing me for such a physical test.
Taking the new cartage rig to @sound_stage_studios for 3 days. Gone are the days of endless trips to the truck unloading dozens of boxes and racks and garden hoses. All of my tracking essentials fit nicely and it’s much easier to transport.
If you know me, you know one of my favorite things in the studio is tracking a full band but more specifically - live acoustic drums! Being deliberate to serve the song and production and fixing it well before the mix stage sometimes feels like a lost art in the world of samples and programming. That’s my goal, that’s what I most love to do; the physics, technology and techniques around recording drums is my Roman Empire.
Honored when @kate.linne.malone asked me to contribute some thoughts to her audio blog discussing the important stuff in life - drum recording and pizza! She’s a great producer and songwriter as well as one of my favorite collaborators. Check out the link in my stories!
Great weekend in Kentucky celebrating the artistic talents of the Appalachian region with the Appalachian Arts and Entertainment Awards. Truly honored and humble that they saw fit to present me with the Engineer/Producer of the Year award.

Just spent a week eating, rafting and hiking my way through Colorado, celebrating my nephew’s high school graduation! Some places are just magical and the Rockies are one of those places.
