Stick Fly — @theatrechar Season 97 The final MainStage show of Season 97 closed today and it was a moving piece to close on. Dealing with family drama and race, Stick Fly balanced its heavier material with a certain humor and lightness that kept it right at the water line, until the final wrenching scene.

Violet — @theatrechar Season 97 Season 97 is a wrap, so I’m sharing the back half of season photos I took, this time for the beautifully done Violet, starring a cast of incredible performers many of whom also happen to also be former cast mates and dear friends.

The Play That Goes Wrong — @theatrechar Season 97 Season 97 is wrapped so I’m catching up on some of the shows from the second half. I’ve never laughed as hard as I did at The Play That Goes Wrong. I’m honestly surprised these photos aren’t all blurry messes from my shaking hands as I laughed the evening away.

2024 Highlights! 1- Jan: our long-awaited Wizarding World and Disney trip 2- Feb: @janaebritt launched her 3rd season of show art design for @theatrechar 3- Feb: Emmy’s last Daddy/Daughter Dance at Olde Providence 4- Mar: RVO Health SXSW trip 5- Apr: Emmy and I took a trip just us to St. Louis (City Museum pictured) and to see my grandparents in Salem 6- Apr: Emmy and I got to see the Solar Eclipse Totality in Salem with my grandparents 7- May: @knightsbaseball back all game where Emmy caught a foul ball within 30 seconds of being there 8- May: The girls met their first celebrities, @theholdernessfamily at our local Barnes & Noble 9- Jun: We surprised the girls with an end of school year trip to NYC to see @cursedchildus and @twentysidedtavern 10- Jun: The girls did their first sleep away camp together at @camplurecrestministries , already making plans to go back next summer 11- Jul: squeezed in a last-minute short beach trip to our favorite beach town, Wilmington, NC 12- Aug: Emmy started at NWSA with Genevieve in what will turn out to be their only year together until Emmy’s in 9th grade with First Ward School of the Arts splitting off next year 13- Aug: All three girls got new piercings. Emmy her first, Genevieve her second holes, and Janae a helix piercing 14- Sep: I had the opportunity to check off a dream role with Man in Chair in Drowsy Chaperone at Theatre Charlotte 15- Oct: @wheatkara & @luke_wheat joined us at the new Bowl amphitheater for @ben_rector 16- Oct: We visited our favorite fall activity @hall.family.farm and finished the corn maze with the third fastest time of the season 17- Oct: Emmy did her first piano recital at NWSA and killed it 18- Nov: Genevieve did her first vocal recital with @theschroederstudio 19- Nov: We hosted our 3rd Thanksgiving for both sides of the family and had an awesome trip to Top Golf 20- We closed the year with our family-wide tradition, A Christmas Carol, with me directing, both girls in the show, and Janae taking photos and running TC’s famous and hilarious Christmas Carol Meme Series

A Christmas Carol — @theatrechar Season 97 It’s hard to put into words how special this experience has been. Despite going to school for it, I haven’t directed anything since before Instagram even existed so stepping back into it with Theatre Charlotte, with this show I have a lovely history with, and with this fabulous cast was a joy. And wow this cast. They surprised me in bold, beautiful choices and small, insightful moments throughout the entire process. The creative team, as always, took this to another level. Blessings and praise to costume designer @metallicretalic who took the smallest direction for what I wanted from the Ghost of Christmas Future and with @tristanwhaley_ created my favorite version of the character to exist in any adaptation. Theatre is a distinctly collaborative art form and dozens of people came together from this fall through to last weekend to make a truly beautiful show bloom. Merry Christmas, boys! 1984 — @theatrechar Season 97 Back behind the lens for the recent run of 1984, one of my favorite books and an excellent on-stage retelling of the prescient story of surveillance, freedom, and oppression. Almost too timely, but appreciated and exciting nonetheless. I also got to shoot the telescreen sequences for the show and it was cool to see Theatre Charlotte continue to push the envelope technically!

“It does what a musical is supposed to do… it takes you to another world! And it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head… a little something for when you’re feeling blue, you know?” There are not enough words (and trust me, Man in Chair says a lot of words) to say what I feel about this run of The Drowsy Chaperone. This was a bucket list role with a bucket list director, a bucket list creative team, and a bucket list cast. This show was a dream and it couldn’t be repeated. As someone who loves his niche fandoms deeply, including the fandom of musicals I share with Man in Chair, this role has always been inside me and it was pure joy and catharsis to share him with the @theatrechar audience and bring this show to life with an incredible cast. Thank you to Billy, Lisa, and Matt, our incredible crew, this dream cast, and @janaebritt , Genevieve, and Emmy who supported me more than you can imagine to basically abandon them five nights a week for two months to pour myself into a role I will never forget. 📷 also by @janaebritt who will be behind the lens again for the next Britt Family show: A Christmas Carol

Alice by Heart, Braelig Cast — @theatrechar Student Theatre Guild 2024 Alice by Heart is one of my top ten shows and it was an absolute joy to shoot both casts of the Regional Premiere of this show. This is the second double-cast show I’ve shot, but the previous one was a cast of two. I shot these casts back-to-back and it was wonderful to see the divergent choices resulting in two different shows from these talented young actors. Next to Normal — @theatrechar Season 96 I never got around to posting about what has become probably my favorite show I’ve ever shot. There was something really special about this show, the combination of the talent, the timing, the visuals, and the story made this one really, really fantastic. What a perfect closer to a great season.

I’m so excited to be making my @theatrechar directorial debut with A Christmas Carol this December! It’s a dream to get to direct a show I’ve enjoyed as an audience member, a cast member, a photographer, and a projection designer and even more a dream to get to do it alongside such a talented friend as @bkirbz90 ! Here we go!

Legally Blonde — NWSA High School Musical @nwsa_tag . Legally Blonde was a blast to shoot. As always, NWSA impresses and it was also a joy to see several TC and Wizard of Oz Alums among the cast. Watch for some of these names on Broadway marquees in the years to come.
