I interviewed @kylehelf for over two hours (Helf yeah) and distilled it down to these 87 seconds.
I’ve only met Kyle a handful of times, but each time he’s been present in a way that I can’t help but envy. He lights up the room without taking space from anyone.
In our interview I asked him a lot of questions about what compels him. The common thread of his answers all seemed to revolve around the concept of being present. Which is something I work on all the time. I constantly remind myself to “Be Here Now” so that I can show up for people the way I want to show up, and it’s difficult. So when I see someone else do it so effortlessly, I pay attention.
The message Kyle has here is so vitally important to life. Our definition of success is so rigid. I know people that are very successful, or who got the thing they always wanted, only to find they were just as unfulfilled as they were before. Where do you go from there? You worked your whole life for it, you get it, and you’re left with the same feeling of emptiness as before.
Or you tell yourself that your entire self worth is derived from that success and you lose it. What then?
Well for starters, you can be present with yourself. That’s something you can do right now, today, regardless of your circumstances.
You may not even be honest enough with yourself to admit that what you wanted 10 years ago is still what you want today.
Being present enough to recognize that, and being honest about it, well, I’d call that a success.
