Moved into my current mix room, first time working from home in almost a decade, late last year. Small, but accurate. Comfortable for two or three, cozy for any more than that. I’ve been mixing entirely in-the-box for nearly ten years now after I sold off my last piece of outboard (ignore the 2500 I’m currently fostering for @obolewis ) and focused on figuring out what tools I really needed to invest in to make the most of this wildly exciting explosion of beautiful sounding DSP. Room, monitors, and the fastest computer I could buy driving a giant display. Thanks to @musiccityacoustics , @barefootsound , my Mac and & few cables, I’ve reduced the amount of machinery between me and the song to a bare minimum.

Same mindset as the mix room .. simple ingredients, dialed execution, maybe a little (a lot?) of overkill & @aub_schilder ’s seemingly infinite patience while I take two hours to make a “simple weeknight dinner.”

@kyledreaden on 35mm portra 400 Kyle had never had headshots or professional photos done, I sat down with him and @aub_schilder to conceptualize this “look into his lifestyle”, a very architectural digest inspired, shoot. We dreamed up a vision that depicted him just as he is, simple and intentional. I loved hearing about Kyle’s process and journey, watching him and Aub be so easily in love, and giving him the opportunity to be comfortable in front of a camera- a place not a lot of people who are behind-the-scenes tend to feel like they are able to authentically be themselves. If you get the opportunity to work with Kyle, just know you are in the hands of someone who cares and is intentional with everything he does.

NEW RELEASE! I am so excited to finally share the new album from @maiasharpmusic , "Tomboy" in its entirety. Mixing records can sometimes feel like being a sonic janitor. Other times it can feel like coloring in a coloring book. Every once in a while, it feels totally transcendent, pure flow state, mind-melding with the material. This was one of those projects. I am such a huge fan of Maia and all of the amazing musicians who touched this album before it showed up on my desk. A proper top-to-bottom listening experience well worth your time and attention.
