Endless sunsets to wrap up my first trip to Rocklands. Stoked to get to share good times there with close friends, make a few new friends, and stoke the fire for my next trip.
Weichei, 7C+/V10
Of all the boulders I shot photos of this trip, Weichei may have been my favorite. It was also the only problem I truly projected.
At first I thought it was called Wei-chi... the Chinese name of the board game westerners know as Go. Pretty cool right? Well, I found out later it is actually named Weichei, German for soft egg. Didn't feel so soft for me. But I guess that name is more fitting, Weichei is also used as German slang for a sensitive male ego... ouch. Luckily for me, I had a whole crew of much stronger friends who could show me the way to get this one done.
Before this trip Rocklands, South Africa always sat atop my bucket list of climbing destinations. Having now visited the area it still holds that slot... one trip is nowhere near enough to start thinking about a different destination.

One of the fun things about this trip was that most of us had a camera in our hands. It has been really fun to see what the crew captured and @zanemt has dropped a few hints of his massive talent on his page. Go give him a follow. Here are a few shots I got of Zane in front of the camera.
The sunsets in Rocklands seemed to go on forever. As such it was easy to get lulled into a night session.

Getting excited to share some memories from Rocklands this summer. I am gonna start with the guy who planted the seed in my head.
Max put in some hard work prepping for the trip and it showed when he dispatched two nemesis routes in his first two days of the trip. In fact, I would think that these first two days alone would account for his most successful bouldering trip to date. Here he is stretching his legs on the classic dyno Hole In One v10/7C+

Got to tick one off the life list with the best company, @brie_neatbeat . But also gotta show some big love to my big brother, @kytroutbum32 . One of the benefits of having a musically gifted and supremely cool big brother was that I got exposed so much cool and diverse music early. When he moves off to college I got to raid his CDs left behind. I saw the Les Mis double disk in there, well loved, and wondered what the guy who introduced me to WuTang was on to… it didn’t take long to figure out. Been looking forward to seeing it live for almost 30 years and it finally happened.
