As always, I celebrate your sunrise.
I know that I was blessed to have you, I do…
Most would think that seeing so much of you in the mirror every day and hearing so much of your voice in mine would be a comfort.
It is acknowledged, respected, and cherished, but I can’t claim comfort. In this season, it really makes the pain worse.
I am as low right now as I was the year that you passed…
I failed in just about every conceivable way last year, and so far this year is working out the same.
I miss your example, your wisdom, your counsel.
I miss your instincts, your determination, and your moral clarity.
I miss your stories, your humor, and your laugh.
I miss being able to share any and every struggle, defeat, and victory with you, knowing you would understand.
I miss my Pop.
Make no mistake, I feel your presence, but it’s not the same.
I have no doubt that you sent k.c. to us.
I have no doubt that you’ve welcomed Mama Rose to the heavenly choir.
I have no doubt that you continue to look out for our Family for close to twenty years now, just as you did in life.
I have no doubt that you knew and know how much you are loved.
I live by the truth in all things, and I absolutely hold that with you.
This is all so damn hard.
I can make two statements and mean them both from the depths of my soul:
Happy Birthday, Pop!!!
I miss you.
