These are exciting times. Through a lot of hard work and dedication, our Pottery studio is up and running with a slab roller and multiple pottery wheels and the kiln and drying racks and tools. Wow! This is what can be accomplished when you have an enthusiastic and diversely-talented collaborative maker space. Our maker space is one of the largest in Canada 🇨🇦 and growing. Congratulations to the whole team that made this happen. And continuously improving each of our sections 🎊 👏

Wowie! Can you believe the last Saturday in April already (almost) here already?? Be Gay Do a crafts, our monthly queer crafternoon is coming up on April 25th from 2-4pm. This month we’ll be making lunch cards! Use it to motivate you to do your chores, or set a goal or remind yourself to go eat more ice cream and maybe treat yourself with a sticker for treating yourself. Supplies will be provided and you’re welcome to bring your own activity to work on instead if our idea doesn’t sound fun to you! RSVP at kwartzlab.eventbrite.com

Something fun as we head into summer! Learn a new skill and get ready for summer adventures in this fanny pack workshop! Perfect to hold your sunglasses, sunscreen, keys and other summer essentials during your next hike/bike ride/festival/beach-day! In this class you’ll learn basic bag-making skills including sewing a zipper, attaching straps and sewing a lining. We’ll be using the Core Fabrics Belt Bag pattern (available free with newsletter subscription). Please bring your own copy of the pattern to class. Notions (zipper, webbing, buckle, d-rings) will be provided and there will be some fabric available. Visit the link in my bio for more information or to register.

Sally Gray has been working on her textile arts at @kwartzlab A piece of bobbin lace just finished. This is in the Idrija style (idrija is a regionally protected term). She started 2 weeks ago and has been chipping away at it. She tends to work on lace at home but wind the bobbins while chatting at kwartzlab. She chose this piece as it's the most complicated one of its style that she has done yet. Pointed corners are a new technique for her.

This is why a maker space community is so vital. One of our members (Huge shout out and thanks to Colin Powell) decided to make a lid for our cart to have moveable surface space in our #woodworking shop. Our members are a wonderfully diverse group of minds and skills and everyone pitches in to make @kwartzlab better and help each other build on ideas and solve challenges. Plus there is more equipment here than you could ever keep in your home. Drop in any Tuesday evening between 7-10pm for a tour and meet some of our people. #community #teamwork

We have a flat bed knitting machine in #area-textiles. Elysha from @worthmending completed these wonderful machine knit socks to learn how to set the guage, calculate the size and work out the techniques. We are always adding new equipment and tools to @kwartzlab so if you haven't been in a while, drop in on one of out Tuesday Open Nights (7-10pm) to see how we've grown lately!

Cutest tool ever! Not only is it a very cute 3d printed screen printing rig but it is actually a functional mini screenprnting rig! It now lives in #WhichCraft? zone and you can use it with emulsion, stencil paper, or painting directly onto the screen to make mini prints. The community at @kwartzlab never ceases to amaze.
