Spoon with squashed orbs posing on some really special brown lichen. Sold at the Haystack silent auction 👏🏽#mainelichen #sugarmaple #haystackmountainschoolofcrafts #reliefcarving
An oddball collection of spoons. I enjoy the imperfect, find-as-you-go, with the tree’s grain aspect of green wood spoon carving. I will be announcing an online holiday SPOON DROP in the next week. I’ll have about 20 quirky spoons ready to go. If you want a heads up about when the sale goes LIVE ☄️subscribe at katehawes.net for an email.
I am psyched to lead a 3 hr spoon carving workshop as part of the @museumforartinwood Queer Wood LGBTQI ongoing program. Come learn about green wood, the magic of a Swedish carving knife, and the fun of (Qu)afting in a group!
June 6th 10-1 in Philly. Sign up @museumforartinwood
I made this bandsaw box in 2020. I liked how there was no right-side-up, that it wobbled around on a flat surface, unsure of its resting place. Also, I like the play between in-out, smooth-textured, hot-cold. Maybe this reflects my own constant wavering between things, my indecisiveness, my fidgety self. 🤷♂️. This box was sold at the @museumforartinwood great Bandsaw Bash Auction #flashbackfriday #bandsawbox
I make a lot of spoons but I am also a furniture maker. I made this piece at least 20 years ago, before we woodworkers were all digitalized. I was interested in the visible marks of my hand, milk paint, and squirreling things away. Drawers, drawers, drawers. Photo by Cathy Carver #flashbackfriday⚡️
I can’t believe it but @kvosh & I just celebrated our 20 year anniversary! Just like at our first date at Diner in Williamsburg 20 years ago, we shut the restaurant down last night. We never run out of things to talk & laugh about. I am so lucky. Love you Kate! ❤️❤️🔥❤️
My better half @kvosh carves beautiful things out of wood. All their spoons are unique and sourced from local wood refuse. They are having a “spoon drop” Weds eve at 7 pm, so set your reminders and go to katehawes.net when it opens, because they go fast! 🥄🥣🪵🌲
I am excited to release a batch (of 20) of my spoons and other functional kitchen wares to my website Spoon Shop. The sale starts Dec 10th at 7 pm ET, exactly as per the clock that be. Website address is . Also up in my profile. Thanks for looking and supporting my carving journey!🌈🙏🤲🏼
3 spoons: yellow birch, black walnut, cherry. All are straight off the knife, no sanding. I am not anti sand paper at all. I just enjoy what a sharp~knife can do in green wood. I also like the tactile quality of knife’s facets. I am drawn to the oddities of hand shaped things, the eye-balling of symmetry, the failures of getting it right.
I have a LOT of spoons oiled and ready to rock. I’ll be selling next Sat in Kingston with a bunch of other Queerdos! Make spoons, not war. Nourish yourself and others. Sale is the 27th at Rowan Woodwork 1-5 pm in Kingston. @rowanwoodwork@abiggaymarket@transjoyrevolution
