The underground nature of these dance spaces allowed for queer folx to express themselves without fear of discrimination. This dance can be categorized by: arm pathways, posing, musicality, intricacy, precision, fluidity and storytelling.

In January I had the honour of curating and producing an event I had joked about behind closed doors; and it was far more than I could have ever imagined, experimental battle format, two communities fully crossing over for the first time here, and this being largely a one man team (I did this to myself, loved it!) as offline as I’m trying to be… I can’t not post something about it…
I spent months leading to, carefully selecting and putting together what the judge panel would look like, the music, the MC, commentators, the venue, how do I best have everyone step into each others shoes without altering any customs in each community and have everyone experience something new but familiar, how can I create a night of learning, partying, fun and celebration for attendees and for everyone involved (DJs, judges, etc) and make sure things REALLY made sense and weren’t random. What conversations and relationships could I make and build?
I want to thank each and every person who came to the event and to all who made it possible (shout out Boris for taking a call from me when I was crashing out over tickets and attendance), folks from Seattle (LOVE!), Portland (XOXO<3), Calgary (Yahoo baby!), Vancouver + any other places I may not even be aware of. To the DJs (SIMONE! RITA!) MC and Commentator (SILK N CAZI!!) All the Judges… To VK for trusting me and giving me this opportunity.
Your support really woke it up for me and made my heart and soul just glow. I felt so loved and honoured.
Thank you for trusting me and battling, walking your first category, being in your first all styles battle, for believing in my vision and helping me make such a wonderful experience.
Boots N Cats was a love letter from me to all of you. I have been so embraced and held in these communities, and I really felt the trust and love; so I hope you felt the love and care I have for all of you too.
