Honored to play Seattle Cocktail Week at the magical amaro tasting room of SennzaFinne this Friday from 5–7pm. Seattle’s beverage community is one of the reasons I’m still here. It has held me up more times than I can count and continues to remind me how much care lives in this city. There’s something real between musicians and bartenders, we need each other, we feed each other, we shape the same nights from different sides of the room. If you’ve never been to SennzaFinne, you kind of have to find it. It’s tucked into an industrial stretch of Interbay, past warehouses and parking lots, and then suddenly you’re inside this tiny glowing space that feels like part cocktail bar, part amaro lab, with botanicals everywhere and a disco ball overhead. It’s built by two people deeply in love, with each other and what they’re making, and you can feel that in every glass. I’ve always been drawn to bitter herbs and botanicals. There’s something grounding about it, like a direct line back to the earth. Amaro feels like the perfect nightcap to me, something you sit with, something that lingers and opens up slowly. The first time I tasted theirs, it stopped me in my tracks. So I’m putting together a set meant to pair with it, something layered and immersive, something you can taste as much as hear. 📍 3401 Thorndyke Ave W Suite 119 (Interbay, near Kuma Coffee)

a song from class w/ @flockofdimes via @school_of_song ✨ I spent the past month in a songwriting workshop with Jenn Wasner (Flock of Dimes, Wye Oak, Bon Iver, etc). Jenn’s guidance on earth, sky, shapes, and their alchemy cracked me open to new ways of listening—how rhythm, atmosphere, and harmony can merge into something whole. she reminded us that presence is stronger than perception, and that “the way you feel about the work is the most important thing.” our very first assignment was to write a song in just 20 minutes, guided by a stream of images and text from classmates flashing on the screen. one that lodged itself in me was a collage by Hendrikje Kühne & Beat Klein, Painting People in the Sun — a sky of skies, a lifetime smashed into one. out of that, this song emerged: a curtain to call / inside you exploding / the eye in a mouth / is spilling a memory / from here it’s been fine / regardless what he thinks / a lifetime of skies / in one cloud returning / return return return / the roadway in orange / pointing a finger / a grand building / I cannot remember / from here it’s been fine / regardless what he thinks / a lifetime of skies / in one cloud returning / return return return endless thanks to @school_of_song 💫

We were delighted to welcome musical band @false_hemlock to Centrum! False Hemlock spent a month in residence with Centrum writing and recording songs for  their first full-length record. They sampled sounds from across the state park and spent time writing and recording at the beach, in the forest, and inside the concrete batteries, known for their beautiful reverb and long history of sonic experimentation. They were also grateful to spend time in their studio with a beautiful grand piano, but much of the work happened outdoors, shaped by the textures and soundscapes of the park. This time shaped the early seeds of what will become their debut record. Learn more about False Hemlock below. False Hemlock is what happens when a few folks feel a magnetic pull toward each other—and choose to turn it into music. You can hear it in the way they sing together, and in how they build music and community slowly, with intention. For the past few years, they’ve been lucky enough to find themselves in rooms full of strangers—sold-out crowds at the Tractor Tavern, open skies at Timber Fest, the patchwork gatherings of festivals like Folklife and PrideFest. They bring the same quiet urgency to all they do: the desire to hold what’s tender and impossible about being alive. The pain and the wonder. The slow, unfolding forest of us all. Enter the forest: @false_hemlock @false_hemlock is comprised of @kvanpetten  @nattmeek  @maggot_nelson and guest contributors. #artistresidency #writingresidency #centrumfoundation

DEAR HUMANS — amidst the dumpster fires multiplying, might I suggest an antidote: gather together, eat some food, and celebrate the work of a few dear friends of mine who teach creative writing inside King County Jail and with folks moving through incarceration, addiction, homelessness, psych care. On Tuesday at @common_area from 6-8PM we’ll honor them with a free dinner + show — you can even read their students’ writing. And: the incredible @poetlaureateofhellworld is reading and you reeeeally need to hear their poems. Trust me. See you Tuesday? 📅 Tuesday Sept 23 · 6–8 PM 📍 Common Objects, Belltown 🎟 Free · All ages ♥️ Donate to Golf Pencil Group Up next… 9/27 at @hugohouse with @bushwickbookclub 10/17 at @ballardhomestead1 with @cataldomusic
