A 22-minute plunge into anime club euphoria and electro-surrealism, Hatsune Mixtape vol. 1 is the first in a series of sample-dense EPs reimagining Vocaloid icons through the lens of Detroit techno and spectral production. Chopped vocals from Hatsune Miku and Kagamine Rin drift through acid-drenched grooves, mid-140’s industrial rhythms, and an ambient interlude that cuts the distortion with breathy, crystalline calm. At its heart is a warped, emotionally raw rendition of a city pop classic, sung by Miku like she’s trapped in a digital dream. Built from modular synths, trumpet fragments, field recordings, and a DJ’s sense of momentum, @kuumaproject folds their anime rave sets back into an avant-garde production language rooted in pulse of Detroit.
