A bride once chose a cheaper planner and called me back a month later. Sometime last year, I received an enquiry from a bride who was genuinely excited to work together. We had a call, I answered questions, gave advice, and explained what on-the-day coordination actually involves not just the wedding day itself, but the work that starts well before it. She was impressed with the level of support and structure I’d be providing. I shared my quote and scope of work. She then told me the budget they had in mind, and I was honest I couldn’t deliver that level of work for that price. She asked for time to speak with her fiancé. When we spoke again, she explained that her mum had found someone cheaper and she would be going with that option instead. I wished her well and carried on with my work. About a month later, she called me again frustrated, overwhelmed, and unhappy. The communication with the planner her mum found wasn’t great, things were being missed, and the experience wasn’t what she’d hoped for. She asked if I could step in. I said yes, on one condition. The scope of work hadn’t changed, the manpower hadn’t changed, and neither had my price. She tried to negotiate, but there was nothing I could remove without compromising the job. In the end, she said something that stayed with me: “I’d rather pay the extra money and have peace of mind and a job well done" The moral of the story: 1. Brides — stand up for yourself. This is your wedding, and your peace matters. 2. Cheap often becomes expensive when things start going wrong. 3. Not everyone advising you will be there dealing with the stress on the day, you will. 4. A professional’s price reflects the responsibility, preparation, and pressure they carry for you. 5. Peace of mind isn’t an add-on. It’s the product. This isn’t about spending the most, it’s about spending wisely.

I’ve realised that what I care about most isn’t perfection, it’s consideration. Details matter to me because they change the way a space feels. They decide whether something feels rushed or thoughtful, overwhelming or calm. When something is done properly, you don’t notice it. You just feel at ease. I don’t approach events as projects. I approach people as people. Everyone comes with expectations, family dynamics, pressure, and emotion, and I take that seriously. I listen carefully, I move thoughtfully, and I don’t rush decisions just to tick boxes. What I protect for my clients is simple, but not easy: your peace, your calm, and your dignity. So you’re not stressed, overwhelmed, or pulled in ten different directions. So you can actually enjoy the experience instead of surviving it.. So you can be present, not performing.
