Writer/Director Patrick Ross will be going through a VFX Proof of Concept breakdown with FMS 303: Film Directing students on Monday, May 2nd at 9:30 am. FMS students are invited to join in-person in Summerfield 420!
Ross is originally from Lawrence and a KU alum. Shortly after graduating in 2011, he moved to Los Angeles, working in Hollywood on various studio films and TV projects. He is currently developing his first feature film, a project driven by extensive visual effects work.
Tomorrow is the last screening from the Spring 2026 series of films from Studio Ghibli, presented by KU Libraries. They will be showing My Neighbor Totoro at 4:00 pm in Watson Library.
The film will be followed by an introduction by FMS Prof. David Mai, and FMS student and Japan Student Association (JSA) member, Erin Azcona-Beam, along with a facilitated discussion led by Haskell Indian Nations University professor, David Titterington, providing insights into the themes, context, and cinematic craft.

The program includes:
• Screenings of the documentaries Loud Enough (2023) and Black Box Diaries (2024)
• A moderated discussion featuring filmmakers, survivors, and advocates
• Pizza lunch at 12:00 PM
It will also feature the Silent Witness exhibit, honoring Kansans affected by sexual and domestic violence, as well as campus and community resources available for support and advocacy. Free copies of the book Black Box and Involuntary Consent will be available while supplies last.
The Oldfather Film Festival is a student-run film festival for KU students to have a chance to screen their work on the big screen at Liberty Hall on May 8th from 6:00 - 11:00pm!
The night includes an hour of gala and mingling with appetizers, the student film showcase, and a student filmmaker Q&A with the directors of our presented films.

Film editor Evan Schiff, ACE, will be a virtual guest in Prof. Mai's FMS 377 Post-Production class on Monday, April 20th from 2:00-3:00pm. You're invited to join in on Zoom! Check your KU email for the link.
Bio: Evan Schiff, ACE, started his career in the film industry at the age of 16, between his junior and senior years of high school, with an internship at Legacy EFX (formerly Stan Winston Studio). After graduating from high school, he was accepted into USC's film production program and was bitten by the editing bug. He found a love for sitting in the editing bay for hours on end putting his student films together, and now is a film editor, known for Frankenstein (2025), John Wick 3 (2019), and John Wick 2 (2017).
