Back in January I started volunteering at this magical agricultural animal rescue in Campo known as the @farmanimalrefuge . The incredible humans behind this non-profit sanctuary rescue and rehabilitate abused, neglected and abandoned farm animals that would normally just be sent to the slaughter or left for dead. Working weekly with these sweet animals and gaining their trust has been so rewarding and healing for me, driving an hour out east each Monday morning has become such a special and therapeutic routine.
If you know me you know how much I love and respect animals—I have been vegan 13 years this year and vegetarian since I was 8 years old when I fully understood where meat came from. I used to say my dream was to have a rescue farm filled with rescued dogs, pigs, goats, sheep and now I know it’s a possible reality with a lot of hard work, dedication, love, and help. Seeing some of these animals go from weary of humans to fully cuddly and talkative goofs is enough to bring tears to my eyes most days. You can learn a lot from animals like patience, listening instead of speaking first, gentleness, kindness, gratitude and more. I am endlessly grateful for the opportunity I have been given to even help out a little bit behind the scenes of this beautiful place. As the last slide says, “you belong somewhere you feel free” ❤️ I hope we can all find that somewhere.
