Time for the End of Year SUPER DUMP! Our composers have just finished up their 2025-2026 School Year at KSU, and there’s a lot to report! Firstly, we had 4 end of college Capstones this year, Jordan Roulhac, Nathanial Davila, Jonas Griesbeck, and Sophia Laneheart! All of them did such a wonderful job showcasing who they are and what they’ve learned at KSU. We wish them luck on their future endeavors (though I doubt they’ll need it). We also had our very own Jonas Griesbeck win the composition competition this year, having his piece “Maybe in Another Lifetime” premiered by the talented KSU Symphony Orchestra! It was a wonderful performance of a wonderful piece, and we were so privileged to have the opportunity. Lastly, our Composer’s Recital was an amazing showcase of the works many of our composers put so much effort and life into. It was an awesome concert, full of terrific musicians from KSU, and proved to the world how capable the composition department here is. We are looking forward to next year, even without the guidance of our Professor Dr Hong (check earlier posts for all the sappy stuff), and we can’t wait for y’all to see what these musicians cook up next! DR HONG APPRECIATION POST! With the year coming to an end (and a new “social media manager” in charge 😈), we thought it was time for a few end of year dumps, and what better way than to start it off with our favorite Interim Professor (and Professor in general) than Dr Hong! In her 9 or so months she has been the head of the composition department here at KSU, she’s left such a profound impact on the students and faculty, more than the character limit would allow us to fully address! From all of the KSU Composers Guild (name pending), Thank you Dr Hong. We will all miss you dearly.

Today was the last day of classes at Kennesaw State University, and I left campus with my heart full and some teary eyes. It has been the greatest experience to be the composition professor at KSU this year, and I want to express so much gratitude to my amazing, curious, talented, kind students 🥹🥰 thank you so much for allowing me to rediscover how incredible music is with you all every day, for always bringing a smile to my face no matter what, for being so supportive of each other and for teaching me so, so much. I walk away with such a refreshed perspective on how lucky we are to be musicians. You guys are truly special and I will always treasure this honor of being your teacher this year ☺️ @musicksu @ksucomposition
