Hey all! For those who might be new to my page, I figured I’d introduce myself.
I’m Kyle, a native of Philadelphia, PA who’s been writing since 2008. My genre of choice is historical fantasy: stories set in real times and places in history, but that like to take some stylistic liberties and don’t take themselves too seriously. My first book, a historical fiction thriller called “The Showstopper,” was self-published in 2014 (rereleased in 2020) on Amazon. I have many other WIPs and projects I’m pursuing, most prominently “Knight School”: a humorous medieval fantasy that seeks to recapture the spirit of the classic 80s and 90s fantasy movies that defined my childhood. I’m also a fan of sci-fi and horror and hope to write both someday.
Here’s what you can expect from me:

Teenage peasant and aspiring author Danitha Alder just wanted some adventure…so how did she end up at a third-rate school squiring for the worst (student) knight in Albion? The only thing Dani’s sure about is that she can’t stand her new master, Sir Roderick Payne — but her sojourn to St. Cecil’s School of Sword and Sorcery is just the beginning of a wild ride filled with battles of wits with bandits, derring-do in dining and dancing, swashbuckling swordplay, romantic royal entanglements, and of course, humiliations galore. In the end, she and Rod are forced to realize the only way out is by working together…if they don’t stab each other first. ⚔️🪄😂
School was never quite like this. Welcome to the world of “Knight School.”
Featuring a colorful cast of characters including:
A smart but unseasoned idealist poet ✍️
A crude, rude, and lewd wannabe knight 🗡️
A rebellious punk-rock princess 👑
A cruel, self-serving scion 🐦⬛
A mysterious and glamorous sorceress 🪄
A cynical Scottish headmaster 📖
A wise dragon who (probably) doesn’t want to eat everyone 🐉
For fans of:
The Princess Bride
A Knight’s Tale
Don Quixote

“Hope is a great thing. Maybe the best of things.” —Andy Dufresne, The Shawshank Redemption
On the second to last day of my road trip, I got to stop at and tour the old Ohio State Reformatory, filming site for one of my favorite movies of all time! 🤩 I have to say, it was pretty surreal to stand in all these places I recognized (some of which I didn’t even know were in the prison!) and I had a hard time reconciling the actual history of this historic place with the grim fictional history of “Shawshank.”
Still, this visit was definitely one to remember! 👏

Had an all-too-brief but wonderful visit with my amazingly talented friend @eafieldwrites ! 😁🤩👏 We’ve known each other for nearly four years now and I’m so grateful for her support as a fellow writer and an artist—especially in cosplay! Hanging with her and @monstermommmy this weekend, as well as many other people, made my month. 😊
Also, I know it would mean the world to both of them if you followed them and shared the awesome Warhammer cosplay I helped to film! 🔥👏 Pictures taken at St. Charles’ Place steakhouse where we had our adult prom. 😂🤩

Had a great visit and made some new aquatic friends at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago! 🤩🐟 An amazing facility with a huge variety of creatures, from fish and frogs to birds, insects, mammals, and eels galore. I have to say they were probably my favorite—especially the electric variety! ⚡️😯

Just realized I forgot to post about my adventure to Wissahickon Valley Park this past weekend! 🤩
This park is very close to the city of Philadelphia, but you’d honestly never know: it feels so isolated from all the busy urban areas around it that it’s actually very peaceful. For those who want more or less intense walking there’s your choice of a rugged hiking trail or a more general multi-use one on either side of a picturesque river.
It was a great place to spend a Saturday afternoon, and one I’ll have to explore more in the future! ☀️

Want to know what a week looks like for me as a writer? Take a look!
I believe that you have to find a schedule that works for you. No matter what others may say about setting daily goals, pushing through the pain, etc., you need to find an organic and comfortable balance between writing and everything else you like to do with your time. Otherwise, you’ll burn yourself out and never get anywhere.
✅Tuesday/Wednesday: On alternating days each week, I take a break from my usual board game and trivia nights to go to my local game shop (with a nice little cafe) to get a beverage treat, hang out, and write!
✅Thursday: I’m lucky enough to be part of a writing sprint group that meets once a week in the evening. It’s a little late for me, but I can’t understate how important it is to find your people like this, and how great it is to get instant feedback on what you’re working through.
✅Saturday/Sunday: This is more of an aspiration than an actual schedule, but I always try to find a little time to write on the weekend, no matter when it may be. In the end, though, there’s nothing wrong with just taking some time for you!
What’s your weekly writing schedule look like? I’d love to know, so hit me up in the comments! And you can read more about my thoughts on writing in my latest blog post (link in the bio ⬆️).

My latest read report: Exiles, by Mason Coile! Unfortunately not every book can be a winner, and this one just didn’t connect with me despite the promising premise. 😢
As a longtime fan of franchises like Alien, I’m a big fan of sci-fi horror, so the prospect of a story like that set on a Mars mission seemed like a winner…but if there was a larger point in this story, I didn’t grasp it. It felt like a fairly by the numbers sort of horror/suspense thriller involving psychotic robots, tense humans, and maybe an alien, but without spoiling too much I’ll just say the human element wasn’t there for me. 🤖
Perhaps others will have a different experience, but I was left a little disappointed at the anticlimactic ending and lost as to what the greater meaning was supposed to be. If you want a better read in this genre though, I’d recommend Nightflyers by George R.R. Martin. Bet you didn’t know he wrote sci-fi! 🤯

What the hell did I just read? 😂 That sums up my general reaction to my latest read, Jason Pargin’s “John Dies At the End.” ☠️🤯
I’d heard a lot about this book, and I’m definitely glad I gave it a try—though “like” might be a strong word. 😅 Think a slacker stoner comedy like Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure meets Lovecraftian horror and you’ve basically got this book.
Come for the promise of the bizarrely intricate plot about a drug that opens up portals in time and space—which if you’re anything like me, you’ll probably only follow with the barest degree of certainty—and stay for the oddly endearing characters. The narration style was original and entertaining enough to make me laugh out loud more than once, and it carries the book when the story doesn’t. Definitely not for the faint of heart, but I guarantee it’ll be one of the most unique stories you’ll ever read. 😯
